I just watched that abusive, half-deranged prick, Bob Katter, threatening to punch the crap out of the journo who had the temerity to tell Katter he came from Lebanese heritage (Katters grandfather was Lebanese), when Katter was ranting about immigrants from the Middle East.

Bob Katter is a thug, pure and simple. Katter has some huge personality problems, and I'd hope a lot of people see this thuggish interaction with the journo, and think twice about voting for the bloke.

Anyone who behaves in the manner he did with this journo, who was only pointing out the truth of Katters ancestry, doesn't deserve to hold public office with his threatening, abusive attitude. He's essentially shown he's the equivalent of the classic Middle Eastern thug from Western Sydney.

"Two Jags" John Prescott, at the time the Labour deputy PM, threw a punch at a member of the public who threw an egg on him. I can't recall if he connected, but if he did, it was only a glancing blow. He was, as I recall initially arrested later on th suspcicion of assault (so I assume he didn't connect), ut I don't think he was charged or charges were dropped, presumably based on provocation. IMHO, it should have gone to the magistrates court to be tested. When one joins politics, one knows one is luckly if only half the population will automatically hate you. One has to expect to be grilled on things and the hallmark of a politician (or anyone) is to remain calm in tenuous siituations - and to be able to quickly asses and make clear and correct decisions. Emotional knee-jerk reactions aren't the hallmark of diplomacy and puersuasion we want from our pollies.

Prescott was defended and protected by the Labour Party henchmen. I think he was re-elected, probably on the basis of his actions, such is his constituency, but it was a terrible look and weakened him politically.

Katter is a racist thug fuckwit, pure and simple.

It's not a lefty trap to simply ask a question directly related to his policy of whites only for Australia. His policy is completely racist and the turd used the typical shoot the messenger tactic by calling the journo racist then threats of violence.

Typical right wing politics of claiming victim hood when called to account. Funny how he claims been against wokeness but uses it to bully others.

He is a disgrace and should be censured in Parliament. He should also be charged for assault and a slander suit. If it's good enough to use lawfare against the rights critics, he should feel the heat.

What is it with Queenslanders that they are so Right Wing in their politics? I was considering using "racist" in that sentence, but it doesn't convey the sense of exteremism I wanted. What makes their attitude so different to the rest of us? Is it the tropical heat and humidity?

I wish we knew, maybe they all had lead sugar on weatbix as children while they listened to Joh doing a sermon on politics.

Is it being closer to the equator? Is Darwin or Broome particularly red-necked?

I agree whole-heartedly with this. Law enforcement generally will throw the book at an assailant against a government or law envorcement official; conversly, they should be held accountable to a correspondingly higher standard when they breach similar laws.

Well, it looks like I've got plenty of support, and I was quite surprised at the number of politicians who have rounded on Katter for his abusive, demeaning, and threatening behaviour.

Even David Littleproud, who I generally regard as pretty useless, gave Katter a serve.

Albo was right onto it, and his comment was very good. Katter expects to be called "The Honourable R Katter", but there's nothing honourable, distinguishing, or statesmanlike, in his thuggish outburst at the journo.

He'd be right at home as a standover merchant for the crime kingpins of Western Sydney, maybe they could offer him a job.

I always considered Katter as just a backwoods buffoon, but now he's dropped down to the bottom feeders of society, in my estimation.

Interesting vid on it:

Katter should have his name changed to nutter; he is clearly very passionate!

However, I do agree with one sound bite he made, and it should go for any immigrant (or natural born person to a country), anywhere.. if one has sentiments against the country you call home, one should p155 off to the country where your sentiments are aligned.

By the way, Katter's gesticulations were more intimidation - but probably not to a criminal level. In terms of an assault (in this case, apprehensive of the application of unlawful force), I would contend his actions did not amount to that. His words made it clear he was refraining, and his point to an underarm clenghed fist, even at the time of when his fist became clenched, the fact it was at the same close location with no drawback, and that the converasation was alleging the journo to be racist, but not asking for a retraction, etc. would make it hard to meet the level of crominal responsibility.

Having said that, there could be a prim facie case to answer, so as it would be a midemeanour, it probably should go to the magistrates, if nothing more than to say to ollies and officials.. unlike the USA, we will come after you.

He's always been like that. He gets VOTED in. It's NO BIG DEAL unless you are short on REAL News. Mt ISA, where he lives, is going downhill FAST but the electorate is Vast in size. It's ALL a SHOW which He's always done. Nothing to see here . Move along. nev

I wonder why he reacts so badly to anyone talking about his Lebanese ancestry. It's hardly a big deal to have ancestors that came from somewhere else in a multicultural place like Australia. As far as I know he's only against illegal immigrants, but I assume his grandfather came here legally, or at least not illegally at the time.

Remember it IS in Queensland.  The ONLY place the LNP (as a Party) exists. THEY want to see him off but aren't having much luck. He's been IN for ages.  Nev

Breaking News ....Senator Hanson- Young wants Bob Kicked out. I wouldn't want to see people being denied their chosen rep in Parliament that easily. It Would set a BAD Precedent. IMHO.  Nev

The news is, Hanson-Young has asked Katter to apologise to the journo, OR resign. I reckon he's ignorant enough to double down, and refuse to do either.

SBS has found a ripper of a photo of Bob, he looks like he just quaffed a glass of plonk that was well and truly "off".
