  1. I think you fellas are being cruel, premature detonation is more common than you think and is not something to be laughed at:no no no:
  2. And the quickest way is the good old .410 (actually I suppose the 12 gauge is technically quicker but doesn't seem so sporting and has a bit more potential to put holes in things you don't want holes in!) I don't mind snakes if they are where I don't see them but with a 3 and 4 year old around the house is a no no for them.
  3. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/04/us/san-bernardino-shooting.html?_r=0 Looks like more than one thing is pointing to this being more terrorist related.
  4. On the contrary I don't like a single snake, I'm much more comfortable once they become two:whistling: (Disclaimer, I'm not condoning the killing of snakes and this post should only be taken in a humorous nature:wink: The wink emoticon is in no way meant to detract from the seriousness of this disclaimer:wink:) Although i am not too worried about pythons, trouble is we don't get them here only the eastern brown:thumb down:
  5. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, not even you Tasmanians:yikes:
  6. It is such a complicated mess, it is one of those damned if you do damned if you don't scenarios. Personally I'm glad we live on a great big island but I don't think our lucky life will last forever. Our government (whoever is in power it doesn't matter) cops slack from humanitarians for locking people up who try and come illegally and from a humanitarian view it would seem harsh but I am glad that they (the government) are doing it and at least trying to check who is coming in. It may be propaganda winsor but how much propaganda do we get from the other way? just looking at the number of people walking ask yourself would you like that many people walking through your town? Personally I would tend to believe at least some of what was in that video. It brings out the selfishness in us all doesn't it, I would rather see them suffer than risk having my children hurt. I would need an awful lot of assurance that they were safe before I would feel comfortable. I don't like to think of myself as a racist, but I do like to think of myself as a patriot and the lines on the edges between the two can blur into one another. I wouldn't ever like to see our country lose the freedoms that we have for any reason, there are things and religions that I don't agree with but I would like to see our country stay a country where we are basically free to make our own minds up and to believe what we like without forcing our ideas on others and without others forcing their ideas onto us. Anyway it is a volatile subject and often led more by emotions than facts so we need to be careful we don't let this thread get out of control.
  7. The main road that the truck was on had double lines for the intersection (100 yards or so I guess) so overtaking should have been a no no but I know myself I have overtaken past intersections that have had double lines so I can't complain too much but YES I should've looked both ways regardless. It is a bit similar when driving through roundabouts, theoretically you should be able to enter a roundabout safely by checking that no one is coming from the right but there is always the risk someone doesn't see you on their right and can cut in so a good lookout is paramount to safety.
  8. As far as the no ambulance no charges thing, things must be different to up here in nsw. My better half did the no seeing thing and pulled out in front of a car and got cleaned up, no one was hurt luckily but she still got the neg driving charge. I can see both sides as far as should they or shouldn't they be charged and IMO it would be nice if the officers of the day could exercise a little more discretion. Obviously for the involved parties there will be always bias to one side or the other one side innocent and getting their car damaged (insurance can replace a car but it isn't really the same and obviously some one offs will be unreplaceable) obviously want the offending party charged whereas the offending party generally extremely sorry for stuffing up. Obviously blatant lawbreaking like drink driving or similar should be charged but how many of us have lucky escapes from times when we have genuinely missed seeing someone? Just today I nearly got cleaned up by a truck in a 100k zone, I was coming towards a main road and was going to turn left and my view to the right was clear and unobstructed and I could see that there was no one coming so I kept rolling and pulled straight around the corner and instantly had to swerve hard left to get off the road as a truck was overtaking a car and was right beside it and with only just enough room for me to get off the road before they both whistled past. Who was at fault? IMO the truck would have been in the wrong as at the intersection was double lines and he shouldn't have been overtaking but that wouldn't have helped me as I was only in the mighty mirage (I weigh more than it does!) so wouldn't have ended well at all. And really if I had looked both ways it wouldn't have even been a near miss as I would've obviously just stopped and waited for them to go past. Accidents are never fun. Old K and I are in the local rescue squad in YQDI and see our fair share of them which as he mentioned in another thread does make you more careful but I know for sure I still stuff up regularly and we are all human.
  9. So what you are saying FT is that basically we (us Aussies) are total hypocrites because we refuse to let anyone here work for too low of a wage because it is morally wrong but we are all happy to buy cars and wear clothes that were built in sweatshops by people who basically don't get paid at all and that's ok because they aren't in Australia? This was for the post before your last, and yes I buy things built in sweatshops because they are cheap so I am just as bad as everyone else. We are our own worst enemy, if we aren't willing to buy Aussie stuff and pay a bit more for it then obviously we won't make anything here. But at the end of the day it's a dollar from our pockets and that seems to mean the most to most of us.
  10. Well I think it's a bit like a lot of military equipment, just having it can actually prevent the need to use it. As for the torpedo idea, it would work but then surely a counter torpedo device wouldn't be too hard to put together as well? It's all a bit of tit for tat and we could logically argue the pros and cons for pages but at the end of the day war isn't very logical so the more defence gear we have the better:big gun:
  11. Kiwi that is totally irresponsible and unnecessarily dangerous! I mean ten feet up is pretty high
  12. Well personally I like the diesel option. It does have a few cons but for me the pros well outweigh them. Keeping it for 15 years or so will mean resale value will be of little consequence but generally diesels do hold their value a little better. I'm not sure of the fuel use difference between dual fuel and diesel but diesel will be in front of a petrol option especially if you will ever use it for towing. Having said that if you will end up only doing 10,000 Ks a year the difference in fuel won't be a big killer and if you aren't going to tow anything then you might only be looking at 2 or 3 hundred dollars a year difference. Maybe see if you could find one of each to test drive, preferably up and down a few hills, and see which you like the most:juggle:
  13. Like I said Dutchy I was very impressed with the power of the toureg. I've always found the 3.2 pajero better at towing than the 4.2 landcruiser but the new v8s are good.
  14. We had a diesel pajero (dad still has a pajero now). We always had a good run out of them although I wouldn't be buying one with more than 200,000 on the clock. Our 98 model pajero got to 270,000 before we sold it but it was blowing smoke and getting tired by then. It got thrashed though, it's last hundred thousand Ks were spent half on gravel and two thirds at WOT. We then had a 2004 model 3.2 di-d which we sold at 340,000 Ks and the only major problem was a gearbox at 260,000 and fairly substantial cracking through the frame from the same half life of corrugated gravel two thirds WOT. We got the same cracking in our later model hiluxes when out west, just not built like they used to be but not a problem for the majority of users. Landcruisers seem to avoid the cracking issues but we had problems with diffs needing welding at most services. And they use a lot more fuel than the pajeros. Dad's common rail pajero gets 8L per 100 whereas our 200 series sits on 12. If thinking of towing I would definately do my utmost to avoid a petrol! I would prefer to tow with a pajero than the old landcruisers turbo diesel but the new v8 diesels go good. I don't really have experience with much else, I do like what I hear about the Dmax and our neighbour has a VW Amarok which he is happy with. My inlaws had a VW toureg which could nearly level peg with a v8 commodore (that's not a lie, he was at my boot until nearly changing into third in the commodore then the commodores long legs came out but for a diesel I was mega impressed!)
  15. Norton would have to be the main cause of all our PC related problems over the last few years. Getting it uninstalled and then getting them to stop sending us bills was a headache but now we use trend micro and haven't had any problems since. When with norton we had to get onto their help centre at least once a year to sort out problems that Norton was causing.
  16. I've seen a few vids that myth busters did confirming that the moon landing where real and haven't really ever questioned it myself but that presentation approaches it from a totally different perspective that actually makes a lot of sense.
  17. I've said it a few times before but again won't hurt. The five causes of crashes in order 1: Innatention (covers a lot but basically looking at kids in the back, texting, anything that takes your attention away) 2 and 3 are fatigue and alcohol/drugs can't remember which way around they went 4 and 5 are mechanical and speeding I also forget which way around they were. Speeding is NOT a large cause of crashes BUT (that's a big but!) obviously the faster you hit something the worse it will be. The trouble is it is one of the easiest to police. As far as safety goes speed is only a small part of it. When out west with the looooong straight roads sitting on 100 was the quickest way to put you to sleep. (My better half saved us both by waking me up once when I nodded off doing 100 on a boring road) Now IMHO boredom fatigue is totally different to tired fatigue, if you are tired you can fall asleep even if you are doing well over the speed limit!! So it is important not to confuse the two but with boredom fatigue it certainly can help to get along a bit quicker.
  18. I'm not overly fussed on apple, I will be staying with apple until ozrunways is just as good on android then I think I will be going back to android. I had a Samsung which had a nice screen size but wasn't really user intuitive. My favourite phone was a HTC desire that I had some years ago now, very intuitive, everything was where you expected it and both the apple and Samsung fell way short of my expectations. Apple would be ok if you lived somewhere where high speed Internet was a sure thing but not having a micro sd or other external USB slots ruins the iPhone and iPad for me, they could be so much better.
  19. But can you imagine anyone trying to dob you in? Lol "I saw a huge bird fly low over my house" says cranky sue to the CASA dobline (cranky Sue is a fictitious character and any resemblance to real current or past people is entirely coincidental and unintentional!) "And....." Replies the CASA operator "Well it was making a hell of a racket and I was wondering if you could have a word to him about flying over my house" says Sue "So let me get this straight, you want me to have a word to a large aircraft about flying over your house?" Queried CASA Cam "it was a big chook!" States Sue "A what?" Asks Cam (also a fictitious character) "A big chook, actually looked like a big rooster" sue says Anyway I've gone on enough, you get my point:juggle:
  20. Why not OME? A chook isn't much competition for a fox or cat or dog. Also dogs, cats and foxes can adapt really well to the wild (obviously) whereas it would be a bit harder for chooks. Having said that maybe in some places there are some, I knew a fella who had some exotic pheasants that he kept and used for meat and he accidently left the gate open and they all wandered out. He was worried for a bit thinking immediately of how other animals like foxes ect have caused havoc by being introduced but and hour or so later they all came back and hopped back into their pen. Seems they get used to being looked after. We don't lock our chooks up, they wander around our yard and round the sheds, they have never wandered far away and always roost in the same spot. Keeping the fox population down is important but we have only ever lost 1. I guess not having the wanderlust like cats, dogs and foxes also helps to prevent the country getting run over by wild chooks lol
  21. It seems silly that a car can't handle getting disconnected for a time, do the designers not know that batteries go flat occasionally?
  22. Wait till it shows a bit lower then don't switch it off and trade it in:thumb up: Ayavner, in regards to disregarding the brake pad issue as irrelevant....... Never think anything is irrelevant or not involved when it comes to electrics in vehicles, we had a tractor that was playing up the other day and kept coming up with a engine management error code. To cut a long story short we found that it was actually a bare wire for the pneumatic seat!!!!
  23. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yOCTgVqmeQ This was the one.
  24. Now this video is nearly 12 months old, not sure how things have gone for them? Just checked them out they seem to be stuck with late deliveries too......
  25. Maybe, but there are already companies out there selling similar working products. I'll see if I can find the one I was looking at the other day.
