  1. If it is anything like the ones that I have used, each emailed link has a unique number (usually called a token?) that can be used to track whether the participant has completed the survey. Then the software automatically sends reminders to the anonymous participants before the deadline. True anonymity is a bit of a farce, at the very least your IP address is available to the software, and I presume a good IT guru could crack the database to find the list of which tokens have been claimed etc. If being made redundant, you especially have nothing to lose in telling them how you really feel!
  2. Picked up 11 likes, so I don't think anyone took offence. We see that "struggle to get the words" regularly in Victoria with people involved in the Black Saturday fires too, but far better to share than not.
  3. With friends like him, law abiding firearm owners don't need enemies.....
  4. At least now when I see a peacock without any friends, I know I can blame it on Wind Turbine Syndrome, and can recommend that it move to an area where only fossil fuels are used
  5. I did up a 1966 Suzuki T20, and parts for that mostly came from the Netherlands and the UK. That wasn't a cheap exercise, but nothing like a Z1300. Current project is a 1973 Suzuki A100, parts are readily available in Thailand of all places.
  6. M61A1, I was quite fond of the 1000, but wasn't much of a fan of the 750. You don't see many people volunteering to restore a 750 these days, with good reason.
  7. I seem to recall a bill for $1500 for camchains and tensioners for a VF1000F about 15 years ago. These days I try to stick with two strokes for restorations, at least the parts prices are not so bad....

  9. Wow, that was a very gentle and precise hand on the yoke there.....
  10. Interestingly, when I first moved to Melbourne and fronted up for a job interview, the second question I was asked was which (AFL) team I barracked for. I blustered my way through by explaining that I came from Queensland and didn't really understand AFL so didn't follow a team. Apparently that was an acceptable answer, but if I had said Collingwood, I would have been unlikely to get the job!
  11. I must have missed the comment about not being in this forum Don, although a couple suggested that offtopic would be better than humour. Please dont think that I suggested that people shouldn't express their opinions. But I was starting to see some people for whom I have a lot of respect for (at least from theur posts as they are strangers in real life) who seemed to be heading towards open brawling. Hence the agree to disagree bit. Cheers, Shane
  12. But do you spend your days attempting to convert those who are determined to not be converted? Or spend your time where you might make a difference. When it comes to politics, a steadfast belief in one side or the either is hardly likely to improve the prospect for hummanity.
  13. I haven't seen anyone say that the mods don't do a great job; nor that this thread shouldn't be here. Not even that people shouldn't express their views. But after awhile, surely it gets a bit pointless to try to convert those who are just as ardent supporters for something that is opposite to what you believe in.
  14. People should agree to disagree sometimes, and just respect the fact that others may hold wildly different ideals, and that their personal reasons to hold those ideals can be just as valid for them as for anyone else. I think most people come here to talk and read about flying, and in that regard, I don't care what their political affiliations are. It isn't www.conservativerecreationalflying.com any more than it is the www.socialistrecreationalflying.com forum.
  15. So it starts with a harmless (but perhaps politically incorrect) joke based in the UK. Quickly progressed to immigration, policy, politics, and even a little history, followed by a little sledging, more "think of the children", through to what is really wrong with this country. Then came firearms, self-defence, and a bit more ethnic debate. Of everything that has been said, this is probably the most informed statement of the thread: I'd count that as a win for Jabiru on an aviation forum!
  16. No stress Phil - with the rise of political correctness, so came the death of humour.
  17. Originally meant as a joke and not to cause intense and serious debate Pud - just ended up that way. Perhaps time the mods moved the relevant debate to off topic?
  18. I don't know if there is a way of keeping work out of it. What it amounts to is workplace bullying, which the employer has an obligation to deal with. If your employer allows it to continue, your employer becomes liable so even complaints to outside bodies would probably come back to them anyway.
  19. Hmm....AVG and Kaspersky don't, so you may have a false positive Turbs. But you may be right, visit at own risk. The important text is in the quote anyway.
  20. I've been a member of many types of forums over the years, and seen many end up in nasty brawls. This is the latest that I have seen: http://www.shooting.com.au/forum/index.php?/topic/49667-shutting-down/ Shooting.com.au was a great forum for the amount of information it held, and was a fantastic resource for anyone interested in shooting. I don't pretend to know anything about the legal situation of recflying and the extent to which recflying might be open to legal challenge, but this is a really good example of why it is important to watch what you say online, for the sake of others if not for yourself.
  21. Mods been harassing you again Dog? That Ahlocks character is always phoning me, trying to sell me stuff I don't need
  22. It's amazing how often a "I just want to fix that little thing up" turns into a frame up restoration!
  23. Here is my very uninformed opinion - Labour is heading for a landslide defeat regardless of who is in charge. If Rudd had challenged and won yesterday, then lost at the next election, then he would have been blamed. People have very short memories. I think Rudd will wait until Gillard loses the election and is forced to resign, and then he is free to hold up his hand as a candidate, having not challenged again (as he promised he would not). Rudd is young enough to handle several more years in opposition and certainly has some popularity still. Let's face it, who does the Labour party have to field after they lose? Personal opinion again only, but it seems like it just gets worse with every new PM, regardless of ilk. Anyone know what life is like in NZ? Might be time to move out.....
  24. Well, that settles that. From now on I will fly the 4 miles to work rather than risk my life on my aptly named Bandit 1200.....
  25. Yep plenty of research to support the fact that flashing a message faster than the brain can consciously register can influence what you may think next. I don't know how successful it has been in commercial enterprises, but certainly from a psychological perspective, you can be primed by information that you don't consciously recall having seen. Discreet brand placement in media is probably the best example of it's use but that is normally more than long enough to register, but discreet enought hat you don't really notice unless you look for it.
