Hi everyone,

I’m from Southeast Asia, and I’ve been thinking about moving to study my master degree and also immigrating to Australia. I want to be honest, my home country has become deeply corrupt, and it feels like there’s no future here anymore. I apologise if it seems selfish to consider moving when I know Australia is dealing with serious issues too, like the housing crisis.

I wanted to ask as Southeast Asian immigrant, would I be accepted in Australia? Would someone like me be accepted?

Thanks

I am going to get the popcorn while the responses come in 😉

Welcome to the forum Natn... What country from SE Asia are you from? What do you do for a living? What do you want to study your masters in? What country these days isn't corrupt? Why not jump on the band wagon and get those favours for a few $ (US, of course) 😉

Seriously, Australia has a large SE Asian immigrant population - well certianly on the Eastern seaboard. As long as you're intentions are pure and your are willing to put positively into society, as far as I am concerned, you're welcome.. but I live in the UK.

Australia has some of the best SE Asian food outside of SE Asia..

If you come in to study, I hope you have lotsa money.. As a foreign student, you will be full fee paying and it ain't cheap. Australia is expensive to live in - there is a rental crisis, so for the price of a 5 bedroom apartment on Lexington Avenue in NY, rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous, you can share a 2 bedroom flat in Sydney, 2.5 bedroom flat in Melbourne, and a mosquito cage in Brisbane.

Just remember, it is a legal requirement to support the Hawthorn football club for all temporary and permanent migrants from SE Asia into Australia, and you will be fine. You won't get your visa without it.

I am from Thailand. There is corruption in every countries, but we have vote manipulation, building project that never finish, the rich releasing invasive species then blamed people and got away with it. I used to have high hope as a child but its gone now.

I don’t have a job yet still using my family’s money as I’m still studying my bachelor degree. once I finished that, I’ll study maybe horticulture or environmental science. If anyone here worry about me spreading any religion then no, I’m non-religious.

G'day Natn.

I sympathise with your disillusionment about your government. But unfortunately we have similar stories about some of our own government.

Jerry has summarised what to expect if (or when) you arrive in Australia to study.

Although he implies that he might be an Englishman, he is actually an Australian - living temporarily in the UK. He knows the situation well. He might also shed some light on the comparison between the study options in UK and Australia.

Well, since the Thai food in Australia is the best (I would say better than Thailand, but I actually haven't been to Thailand), Australia will be your second home. Seriously, I was dating a girl once (yeah - hard to believe) and we went to a restaurant in Malvern (suburb of Melbourne) called Beau Thai, and she dreamt about the food she ate... and it woke her up - it was that good (or she was really a bad cook.. which is part of it).

What bachelor degree are your studying? We need more lawyers, accountants, and real estate agents.. not.  Seriously, you're welcome as someone into ag and enviromental science.. until the Lib/Nats get back into government.

I have strived to become a person of the landed gentry, but alas, my colonial past always catches up with me. Anyway, for foreign students, it is much the muchness you pay your fees. In the UK, it is cold, the Thai food is absolutely ship (replace the "p" with a "t"), and the country is going broke, anyway. Nationalistic politics is on the rise, so if you desire to be labelled a pariah, the UK is a place to be (it is quite funny to lob into a conversation that is bagging immigrants, that I am one; the conversation goes silent very quickly).

We don't really care whether you even care about the football.

That's only because you're from Tasmania and they don't have a football team! 😉

As I said, @Natn, you will not get into the country without supporting Hawthorn Football club.. If you become a member, you get priority access 😉

We do so have football teams!

Lots of em!

Who cares if one particular footy team has delusions of grandeur?

And, it's only a small part of Australia that even knows Hawthorn even exists!

In all seriousness, immigration into Australia requires you to go through a bunch of hoops and the system I think is designed to discourage it. I haven't watched this particular video, but have watched a couple of her previous ones.

In terms of education based visas, I am not sure, but if I were going to emigrate to Australia, I would probably use a MARA registered immgration agent.

This youtuber has done a lot of vids about movign to Aus: https://www.youtube.com/@thatjohnstonlife/videos

Of course, no-one has asked whether Natn is a man or a woman. It would make a big difference if Natn was a woman. Thai girls can always start up a massage parlor in Australia, to earn good money. Then she could find out all about corruption and crime in Australia.

According to Ratings of such things WE rate quite well. Americans go ballistic IF they are accused of anything Bad. We seem to want to run OUR place down al the time. Just WHERE would you rather live?  Whinging is easy. Nev

Natn, Australia can be good or bad, just like any place.

My workplace is very multicultural, my team of 9 people includes people from Vietnam, China, India, and Pacific Islands. Everyone gets on well.

Respect and inclusion are key, most people are nice. Of course there's always some intolerant and racist idiots around, but again that happens everywhere.

It’s not just the corruption that frustrates me. Here, religion and superstitions control everything. It’s like everything’s always ‘fine’ even when it’s obviously not. Being selfish is just normal because the laws don’t actually do anything. Driving on the wrong side? Fine. Throwing trash in the river? Fine. Riding on the sidewalk? Also fine. abusive families somehow get excused because of religion.

A lot of "Older" Aussies used to go to live in Thailand. I'm Atheist which doesn't get you beheaded YET.. Often Religion is used as an excuse for many BAD things. YOU have Royalty, which can be just as Bad. Australia's Weather can be vary Variable and Property damaging, often uninsurable and the  variation of climate here from ONE area to others  can be large.  It's about 4 hours flight time in a jet cross this Place and a lot of it has no one living there because it's DRY. and sometimes HOT as well.. What is your age if it's not a rude question? Leaving your home land would be A DRAMATIC MOVE.. Keep posting if it seems like it's doing you some good. We are mainly about planes here,  but that's not compulsory. Nev

My middle nephew has married a Thai woman (second marriage, the first was an Australian girl) and he is quite happy with her. They live in Northam, W.A., and his wife has a large number of Thai girlfriends that all keep together in a big support group. His wife operates a Thai food, mobile food van, that goes to major events, and she appears to be doing quite well. They managed to acquire the food van for a very good price at auction, which helped.

The nephew really likes Thai people in general, to the extent that his wife encouraged him to buy a small farm (about 30 acres or 12 hectares, as I understand) in Thailand, to keep her family employed. He goes there regularly to see how the farm is going. He hasn't spoken about any problems with Thai officialdom, but I understand corruption amongst officials there, is rampant.

Think about being a Vet (animal Doctor) or a doctor of people. Very much needed in country towns. You might even be able to own a plane (If you are silly enough). You need high academic scores to get into Medicine. We need just about all skills Trades too, at present.  Nev

Yeah we have flooding, bushfires, heatwaves, storms, cold snaps, lightning strikes, inland dust storms that reach the coast.

Insurance premiums are unaffordable, rent is half your wage, cars are expensive to keep, food is expensive, mobile phone plan is expensive ... all added together, there's no money left, broke until next payday. Better off staying where you are and put up with the religion and corruption. We have Islamic muslims here now and the majority believe the Quran and Sharia come first. We also have Sikhs, and Hindus who dislike Muslims. Religion will ruin Australia eventually.

Pi$$ off to Trumpland GON and worship your IDOL at closer quarters. You will NEVER be happy here. The Penal Colony quickly became better than  the Place they were deported from for shooting and eating some "Peers" Pet.  Foggy and Rat infested London has no Bondi Beach.Nev
