Marty you watch too much Jimmy Kimmel . Then again I do suppose you vote Democrat (Labor or Green)
-
Labor is no different except its the trade unions. Just look at Victoria with the CFMEU debacle
-
I have always voted with consideration of where preferences go. I am very careful with them. Most people and I would say 80% are just sheep and follow the handouts. Never thinking about the power they can actually wield.

You are right. The pref system here is very flawed Everyone I spoke to in NZ and that being the people I know and a lot that I didnt know and was just talking to all said they were so glad to see the back of Jacinta Ardern. She now lives in Melbourne. I said we will send her back and they all said no thanks we couldnt wait to see the back end of her. Albo probably has her on speed dial This is why they got in because the majority of the population vote with the handout sheets at the polls. They dont know how the system works or have any idea how it works not to mention at more than 2,600,000 work for the government. Are you going to get rid of the government that hired you and pays your wages? There are over 5.3 million people on govt income support payments this does include 2.671 million on the old age pension. There is 65 to 75% of the population live in the cities the rest is rural or remote. Thats a pretty big voter base. Where did all of labors seats come from...not the rural areas thats for sure. I wonder why that is?..The majority on benefits are in the cities of course. Thats a pretty big chunck of the population who want to keep the handout coming.

No you dont ...Secret ballot is only held in the party room when electing a new leader...very very rarely is it done on a policy decision by any party except on something like abortion
-
Nev there is a oxymoron when it comes to socialism and democracy. The 2 are mutually exclusive Currently we have a socialist government and I certainly wouldnt call it a democracy. All of these parties vote long party lines NOT in the interest of the individual politicians electrorates. They are all too frightened to vote how the majority of the districts they are in want to vote. This then makes the ruling party effectively a dictatorship spewing their own ideas to make the whole country comply We do not really live in a democracy.

Seems the major wind power is the North Island, Regardless the majority of NZ power base comes from Geo and Hydro..recognised always as a "base load" supply. NZ is lucky to have those to use. We dont Coal and gas here are our baseload supply. Wind and solar are never base load they are too intermittant. There is no spinning reseve available on wind and solar and there never will be. Base load is the key to a stable system. Baseload is like the lead keel on a sailing boat the boat remains pretty stable but remove that lead and you will capsize...just look at Spain and Portugal last year. North Island: The majority of capacity (over 75–80% historically, and still the bulk today). Many large farms are clustered in the lower North Island, especially around the Tararua Ranges and Manawatū region near Palmerston North (e.g., Turitea, Tararua, Te Āpiti). Other notable North Island farms include Harapaki (Hawke’s Bay), Waipipi (Taranaki), and Te Uku (Waikato).

I wasnt saying you were giving it to me on the kitchen counter. I mean Albo and his socialist (read commo mates) are. I am a self funded retiree and not on any govt benefits or have been in my whole life. Every single dollar I have has been earnt by hard work and risk. All I see is I am being attacked for any prosperity I have earned. On the 1st of July I am up for CGT of almost 200k on a 2 year 500k cost investment for a subdivision I did on one of my own assets I have owned for 20 years. Now I dont mind paying tax as everyone has to to make the countyr run but the amount of waste and stupid decisions by this goverment is a travesty This is called private investment. Without it the country has no money this is why we are a trillion dollars in debt. The CC will run out very soon. There are about 2.7 million on the aged pension...thats fine Disabilty Pension there are almost 1 million people?????? Carer payments are 60 to 70,000 ?????? Parenting payments are 150,000 to 300,000. Now we havent even looked at the NDIS figures yet and we know how much rorting is done there I have no issue with my tax dollars being spent where it NEEDS to go but to me there are a lot of cheaters and freeloaders on the system. and Labor just keeps feeding it.

The battle of the AI... How many windfarms are currently in New Zealand and how much actual capacity do they supply and to what islands Searching the web 48 results As of early 2026, New Zealand has 21 fully operational onshore wind farms with a total installed capacity of 1,263 MW (about 1.26 GW). There are no commercial offshore wind farms yet (only early investigation stages for future projects). windenergy.org.nz This represents roughly 12% of New Zealand’s total installed electricity generation capacity and contributed around 8.8–9% of actual electricity generated in recent 12-month periods (e.g., ~3,810 GWh in the year to September 2024, with higher output in windy periods). Wind’s actual annual output varies with weather but typically achieves a capacity factor of 35–45% in New Zealand’s strong wind resources.Distribution by Island North Island: The majority of capacity (over 75–80% historically, and still the bulk today). Many large farms are clustered in the lower North Island, especially around the Tararua Ranges and Manawatū region near Palmerston North (e.g., Turitea, Tararua, Te Āpiti). Other notable North Island farms include Harapaki (Hawke’s Bay), Waipipi (Taranaki), and Te Uku (Waikato). South Island: Smaller share but growing. Key operational farms include Mahinerangi (Otago), White Hill (Southland), Kaiwera Downs (Southland, Stage 1), and Flat Hill (Southland). Newer or expanding South Island projects are adding capacity here. All wind generation feeds into the national grid (managed by Transpower), with an HVDC link connecting the two islands. This allows power to flow between islands as needed, though most North Island wind primarily serves North Island demand, and South Island wind supports local or export needs via the link.

hahahah Nev. I think I know when a commie is trying to bend me over the kitchen counter

I have been to NZ 7 times and travelled the length and breath of both Islands many times...I have only seen wind turbines around wellington. Although I havent been to the top end of the North island for a few years and the road down to wellington for about 10 years so cant comment on the north island but on the south island I certainly can as of 10 days ago. I did over 1000 km on the south island. Show me 1 wind geb=nerator that is around Christchurch up on the whole ridge lines around all the mountains around christchurch..I can show you a video 360 deg from the Sugarloaf reserve..they are none to be seen where I would think they would all be..its windy up there I just travelled from Auckland to Rotorua and then Tokaroa then back to Auckland then flew to Christchurch then trained it to greymouth drove a car across the top of the south island then back to christchurch then down to Hamden then back to Ragitata then back to christchurch...I never saw even 1 wind turbine in that trip

So Nev if your statements are correct about nuclear how about explaining why there are so many operating around the world now and look after that to how many are currently under construction If they were so expemsive for ROI and they are so unsafe..show me how many nuclear accidents there have been since they started. Other than Chernobyl and Three Mile island...all many many decades ago there seems to nbe a big push for nuclear everywhere except of us knobs here I am not against any renewables at all and I am not a climate change denyier. I want to see less emissions but the road to get there must be sensible for our country and economics not unhinged pushers of the green dream. I am a practical man not a idealogist Some facts to digest below..make sure everyone reads the lot before coming back with any comments off the cuff. All the information below is sourced from Grok As of early 2026, there are approximately 421 coal-fired power plants (or major units) currently under construction around the world, according to compiled data for 2024 that remains the most recent detailed country-level breakdown available. Note that "plants" here often refers to distinct facilities or generating units ≥30 MW tracked by sources like the Global Coal Plant Tracker (GCPT) from Global Energy Monitor (latest full release January 2026). The exact number of individual units can be higher, as some plants have multiple boilers/turbines. Almost all new coal construction (over 90–95%) occurs in Asia, especially China and India. Globally, the pipeline for coal has shrunk dramatically outside these two countries over the past decade, but new starts in China have rebounded strongly in recent years due to energy security and peak demand concerns. Many projects are "ultra-supercritical" or more efficient designs, but they still lock in long-term coal use (plants typically operate 30–50+ years). For comparison: The world has ~6,500+ operating coal plants/units, with total capacity around 2,100–2,200 GW. As of April 2026, there are 415 nuclear power reactors currently in operation (connected to the grid and generating electricity) around the world, according to the IAEA's Power Reactor Information System (PRIS) database — the most authoritative official source. Other reputable trackers report slightly higher figures (typically 437–440) because they use the broader term "operable," which can include reactors that are temporarily offline for maintenance, refueling, or regulatory reasons but are still part of the active fleet.Key Latest Figures IAEA PRIS (as of 7–8 April 2026): – 415 reactors in operation – Total net installed capacity: 379,471 MW (about 379.5 GW) – Additionally, 23 reactors in suspended operation (long-term outage, e.g., some in Japan) with ~19.7 GW capacity. World Nuclear Association (recent 2026 data): Approximately 438–440 operable reactors with total capacity around 400–400.7 GW. world-nuclear.org Other sources (Statista, various reports in early 2026): Often cite 437 in operation as of February 2026. The small differences arise from: Timing (new connections vs. shutdowns). Definitions: "In operation" (strictly generating) vs. "operable" (licensed and available). Top Countries by Operating Reactors (approximate, latest data) United States: 94–96 reactors (largest fleet by far) France: 57 China: 57–58 (rapidly growing) Russia: ~37–38 South Korea, India, Canada, Japan, Ukraine, and others make up the rest. These ~415–440 reactors supply roughly 9% of the world's electricity while producing low-carbon baseload power. In 2024–2025, global nuclear generation reached record levels despite some retirements.Note that the fleet is aging on average (~32–34 years old), but many countries are extending lifetimes to 60–80 years, and new reactors (including the ~72 under construction) are gradually coming online. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Now lets see how many nuclear plants are currently under construction around the world? As of April 2026, there are approximately 72 to 79 nuclear power reactors (individual reactor units) currently under construction around the world. The most authoritative sources report slightly different numbers due to timing and definitions (e.g., when construction officially starts or whether delayed/suspended projects are included): IAEA PRIS database (updated as of 8 April 2026): 72 reactors under construction, with a total net capacity of about 75.5 GW. pris.iaea.org World Nuclear Association (updated early April 2026): Around 79 reactors under construction (total ~85–86 GW gross capacity) in 15 countries. world-nuclear.org Other recent reports (Statista, Visual Capitalist, etc.): Figures range from 74 to 75 active projects. Top Countries Building Nuclear Reactors (approximate, latest data) China: 29–38 reactors (by far the leader, accounting for roughly half of global new builds) India: 6 Russia: 4–6 Türkiye: 4 Egypt: 4 Others (smaller numbers): South Korea, Bangladesh, UK, Ukraine, Japan, Pakistan, Iran, Slovakia, Brazil, Hungary, Argentina Most construction is happening in Asia, with a strong focus on Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs) like China's Hualong One and Russia's VVER designs. A few projects involve other types (e.g., PHWR in India, or first-of-a-kind designs).Key Context These figures refer to large-scale commercial power reactors. Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) are mostly still in planning, licensing, or early demonstration stages (a few are starting physical construction, like in Canada or the US, but are not always counted in the main totals yet). Many projects, especially in China, are progressing relatively quickly. Others (e.g., in Europe or the Middle East) face delays due to regulatory, financing, or supply-chain issues. For comparison: There are currently about 415 operating nuclear reactors globally. The exact number can fluctuate month-to-month as new construction starts or projects reach grid connection. The IAEA PRIS database is generally considered the gold-standard official tracker.

Albo doesnt foster self suffiency at all..All he does is pour public money in to big industry to keep it afloat this is his solution to self reliance..and why are these big operators going down?...POWER and ENERGY prices are killing them all. We want LESS govt involvement...We are just becomming a socialist communist country just like Russia. The govt want to have a finger and control everything. The only way to get GDP and prosperity is to get private investment into more larger operations just like we used to have. The private sector is dying due to these major costs you see it every day. Canavan was right about the aluminium smelter now about to be subsidized to stay afloat..and why cant they stay afloat???..energy costs. This is the crux of the matter everywhere here. In a countyr with so many resources we are strangling investment and employment and development because its too expensive to operate. Why did our only urea plant shut that was here in Brisbane....POWER costs Why was Wyalla steel failing?..POWER costs Private companies drive growth and GDP not governments. This government does not foster that at all like Trump does. last time I did maths 1 + 1 = 2 Trump wants investment by private companies he will not subsidise companies to keep them afloat private companies need to stand on their own 2 feet. They cant do that if they are not profitable. Trump makes the conditions to allow this by making the USA energy self sufficient. Energy costs for any business is a huge part of your operating costs. No matter what Bowen and his renewables scam say the sun goes down at night and the wind doesnt always blow. You cant build enough batteries...let alone the cost for them to power a country at night. I have just come back from NZ and their power prices are half the cost of ours. The reason why is 53.5% of their power comes from hydrol power stations and 20% from hydro. They have literally NO wind turbines to be seen anywhere but apparently there is 8.9% attributed to wind and its always windy in NZ. Solar is 1.4%, Natural gas is 9.3% coal oil and diesel generation is 5.2%. They use the most cost effective resources to generate their whole power system accross the country The biggest issue was hydro was much more previously but its been very dry in NZ in the last 10 years. We dont have the luxury of Geothermal or Hydro here in OZ. The kiwis are NOT putting in huge amounts of wind especially considering they have lots of wind and solar is basically negligable. This govt are pouring OUR money into soalr and wind that is intermittant we need a far better balance and coal and gas is the answer for BASE LOAD the intermittants are fine but will NEVER be able to be even close to 60% of our power needs. Trump also aspires to the same facts this is why they are pushing their fossil fuels but also nuclear. Nuclear here is apparently the most disgusting unthinkable notion according to Labor. Germany shut down their nuclear..well whats happening now is they are powering them all up. Now most other countries are pushing that way to get rid of coal and gas. This is how we should be travelling as well. Its clean it is safe despite what all the greenies say. I want clean power and I am sure everyone with a brain does but the current track we are on is decidely wrong Albo and his far left mates are just a softer Putin both are raging commos they want to be in total control of how we think, live ,eat and shit.

Actually Canavan does not like Trump or the Iran war at all.
-
You forget Canavan has been involved directly in the govt ranks for a long time. Tony Abbott hired him when he was young when he was PM..Canavan knows his way around the political backrooms and is NO DILL.......people tend to forget this. He has a lot of experience the difference is he is a lot smarter than the rest of them. He just currently is not in a position to be the PM...but he is still young and who knows what can happen in the future...here is hoping that somehow he gets a path to the very top. I would much rather have him at the top than any of the current idiots in control
-
If you have the time watch the latest Press Club interview done with Matt Canavan it will be up on Youtube soon I think.......It was a cracker ! This guy would make a great Prime Minister. He is sensible and forward thinking and has some great ideas to launch this country forward. This should be made the Adrress to the Nation not like Mr Magoo's one
-
Jerry I appreciate that and yes that is called having a opinion on both of our points of view and being able to accept that rite now days seems to be something that the left doesnt believe we should have
-
I believe nothing will change in this country until it becomes a basket case like Argentina became. Then everyone has to swallow a very bitter pill to get back on track like their current hard line president has started a massive turnaround there. The gate has been left open for far too long and it currently cant be closed because of the mindset of our politicians who do not have any true life experience. 90% of the dicks in power are either lawyers or trade union rejects or stupid Green idealogs . Digging stuff up out of the ground then sending it overseas to be value added then we idiots buy it back at a much higher price. China for example. Trade is one thing but self flaggilation is another. This process has been going on so long now It is almost impossible to reverse it. Reset is the current term thrown around but it does seem to me that that is probably the only real solution. The horse has bolted for such a long time the process to catch the bastard and put it back in the paddock is nigh impossible now. The only solution is to start again but to do that pretty much everything has to be torn down and that is a very grim prospect. This is a very dim and dark view I know but it is possible if you can get the ones in charge to change their mindset but again how realistic is this.? We are one of the very few countries of the world that has every resource you could want to be self sufficient...the one problem is the money to do it. This is where we could get international investment to start these projects but not like it was in the 70's and 80's where multinationals raped out resources at ridiculous prices because they were not taxed properly or business deals were not setup properly as it should have been a profit sharing model not the way it was. The tax system needs to be different. Yes profit is key to any investor. So why not setup a system where you can get the money to actually rebuild our manufacturing and energy production for outside but do not tax the crap out of the investor companies. Let them keep a reasonable profit and not taxed stupidly. Lets face it the current tax system does not work as they are all offshore and dont pay tax here they just rip the max money out in profit and pay no real tax because of our stupid taxation system. So drop the tax and say of 50% of the profit goes to them to make it worth while for them to inject the huge amount of cash for the projects and the Australian private company keeps the other 50%. The private company then they do pay a nominal tax on their profit say 15%. If the partner is the government well they get to keep the 50% profit and use it to put back into the infrastructure of the country. Just throwing the idea out there...the ratios could be different but the current tax system is so broken it needs a totally different approach that will benefit our country yet makes the profitability for the overseas partner very viable. This is all a bit radical I know but we need major change and radical change is the only way to get something differnet happening because currently we are all swirling around the dunny bown about to go down through the S bend. I am no economist or genius but surely doing the same shit and nothing is getting better only worse so something has to change. You know every single person I talk to in my life says they never voted for Albo..well buggered if I know then how he got in. Labor has alway been a socialist organization..but something changed. The old Labor like the Hawke era were way different. This past 30 years or so the marxists somehow have taken control and the agenda seems to be "You will have nothing and you will be happy" oh and "you will eat bugs" because cows farting kill the ozone layer. The current Labor version only know how to spend money and they put it all on the aussie super credit card. Its not a endless pit but these idiots dont seem to see this. Someone will call in the debt somethime in the future. What ever happened to a fair wage for hard work...there are so many on some sort of welfare now that produce nothing except increase the countries debt. There is almost 1 million on some NDIS benefit....autism or some other issue. Once the parents or the family had to deal with the issue themselves now every tax paying person in the country has to be responsible. There are some of course that do require the proper support due to phyical disabilities and we should support them completely but there is so much fraud going on in this area it is beyond belief and of course its one of the reasons the country is going broke All this TDS I think is just a waste of everyones time. We need to be more focused on what happens here so we can take ourselves out of this global dependence, so another Trump in another country cant effect how we live our lives in the extent it is now. Self reliance in our own backyard needs to be our goal not this current situation we have now. I know its a bit of a rant I hasve been on here but there are many more things to think about and what we can do. The big problem is that list has now been made so big due to the stupid decisions of past governments on both sides. We need a clean out but we have been such a dumb population now I feel the balance scale has gone tone too far to the one side. We need to offload all that dead weight to get some sort of balance to get smart ideas and commonsense back into this country Mark
-
Well all I see is people losing their minds over a guy who only wants for his country to be the best. How you get there of course is the methods you use. Why dont you point all your agression and comments and pontifications to the dickheads who lead our country down into the shi#t chute we are heading into. We are a Island..we dont have nutjobs on any of our borders than can just walk in. We have done our best over the past 30 plus years ( thanks to keatings globalization push) to defang and deindustrialize to a point now where we are a joke. We used to be self sufficient in power and oil and manufacturing pretty much anything we wanted. Exported all around the world and had a balance of trade far in excess of the situation we have in this country currently. Now we are a weak pissy shadow of our former selves. Both political parties are responsible for this terrible decline the problem is they are still in that mindset. We need someone to come in and reshape us. I am not saying thats Trump but we need someone with a big set of khunas or boobies..I dont care who it is just someone with the conviction that Trump seems to have. Not his runaway mouth but his drive and vision for a better country. If that makes me a racist or a woke hater in your eyes then so be it.Thats your opinion !...I have a thick skin and sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me. Oh and I am aloowed to still have a opinion dont I...I mean if I offend you with what I have said..then good...its not illegal to offend anyone...yet. well the current govt seems to want to try to even take that away from us. What ever happened to common sense and critical thinking to run your country. We have the resources here to be one of the wealthies countrys in the world and give the population here a lifestyle that could rival anywhere in the world. Wether you are born here or immigrated here I dont care. If you have immigrated here dont bring your shit here or try to convert what we are or the way we want to live. We are Australians..well we used to be...sometimes I really wonder who or what we will become in the future as I can not currently see any path forward to a better country under our current and ever former numbskulls Now you have a opinion in my view and I ont or probably wont be offended by whatyou say. I will listen and make up my own mind of what I keep on board what you say or discard it into the rubbish bin of ideas..be they sane or insane

Lots of TDS on this thread

Of all the cars you had.. which do you want back?
Kyle Communications replied to Jerry_Atrick's topic in Auto Discussions
My first car was a 1964 mini (Morris Minor version) complete with sliding windows Next was a Holden HT premier wagon with 2 speed powerglide auto Next was back to a Leyland mini panelvan which I hotted up with a bored out 1275 to 1320 and forged flat top Mahle pistons witha close ratio gearbox and ported heads done by a local mini racer guy..went like stink but needed a second radiator with a thermatic fan Next was a VB commodore Had a family so it was my first new car a Toyota Tarago the square verson DX model...great car cost me 28k when I bought it sold it 5 years later with 120k on the speedo for 24K best deal I ever got Then a new 1996 VS commodore wagon..still have it..although its wrecked a few years ago..I gave it to my dad about 8 years ago be he had a argument with a bus Then a Toyota Troopie I used in my business...It was decked out with rear draws etc..was a crap thing to drive Next was a new VS HSV Clubsort V8 auto..lovely car. Then a new HSV VX R8 Clubsport 6 speed manual..best car I ever owned would love to have that car again Then a large Iveco van..been a awesome vehicle..drives more like a car...I still have it..very useful to be able tostand up in the back and not touch the roof. Then the Kia Sportage its been a great car and has done a power of work..I have put 170,000 km on it...but its now retired as of Monday and will sell it privately The new addition I picked up last friday is the new MY20 Dual Cab Ute Triton GLS Premium with the new super select 2 gearbox...only done about 100km so far but its a nice car to drive for sure..very quite and good on the highway...7 years warranty is a good thing too. Got a snorker of a deal and saved over 10k...dealers have been hurting and getting rid of cars to try to get some money back. I think its going to be a good unit..especially going to and from the farm and of course now I can actually tow a load -

Oh here is a video about the real statistics of the deaths in custody fiasco crap....these are actual govt figures ..take the 10 mins and watch it....I think us whites should be up there and protest about White Lives Matter too based on these figures. It also shows just how stupid most of these idiots are they have done nothing to inform themselves of the actual facts -

Did the pommies apologise to India..did the pommies apologise to the USA did the french apologise did the spanish apologise....NO...what happened hundreds of years ago is done and dusted. Yes I believe the "first peoples" got a raw deal but back then thats the way it was. Later of course some bad decisions were made in regards to them but again 50 plus years ago. Stolen generation children were removed from the families....so where the whites...my mother inlaw who is in no way any amount of cast you want to pretend you have in you was taken and spent all her young years getting beaten and abused in a religious orphanage and there were plenty of them with lots of white kids in them so it wasnt JUST the aboriginals that happened to. It really annoys me and gets up my goat that all these squealers say they are badly done by..well I have never ever gotten a govt hand out. I have worked all my life and paid millions in tax and never got a razoo from any govt. This is because I got off my arse and found work and stayed in work no matter what it was. I ran a business for 30 years and employed 10 people and paid lots of tax. Why should the "first people" get treated any different to me. I dont care if you are black white or brindle everyone is on the same footing as far as I am concerned. If you need a hand to get going or get something done I dont have a problem lending that hand but I refuse to be taken for a ride and get stomped on. You only ever get a chance to burn me once. Its only this past 10 years or so its got worse because the young are being brainwashed by social media and other crap that has poisoned their brains...they cant think for themselves or reason..they are sheep they follow the loudest noise. No one actually looks into the facts for themselves..they believe all the piffel of the media cycle daily and the media are the drivers of all this too. They are brainwashing the young people to not respect police or anything its the me me now now attitude....I will end up writing pages here so I am going to stop before the steam starts coming out of my ears -
I see all of your points but how long ago Marty were you trained..and Lightspeed you were done in the mid 80's...Thats yenns point I think. The teachers back then I believe were better trained...just look where our kids are now in the official rankings in the world..damn near least. As far as trade and other education I was listening to god forbid the ABC on the way to work last week and a nurse rang in complaining about the quality and training of the new nurses. They come out as a nicely polished nurse but know nothing and are literally almost dangerous because 90% of their training is done at university and not in the hospitals like it was done. My first wife was a nurse and she trained at the nurses training school at the Royal Brisbane hospital and she still nurses today specializing in the cancer ward and she says the same thing..since they took all the training to university the nurse quality has gone down hill fast. Its the same with almost any occupation like that now. They dont get enough hands on experience being tutored by other experienced teachers/workers ...Electrical engineers who I deal with are the same...great with the theory but have now idea about the practical or how to implement it in the real world. Teaching is no different..its all university. When I was at school they did teachers college but did a stack of classroom stuff as well watching and learning from experienced teachers. The best engineers we had when I worked at the power authority were the ones that started as a apprentice sparky then went and did their engineering degree at nightschool..they were all great...then you would get the ones straight from university...it was a disaster..we saw it every day and that was 40 years ago

Well they were not good electricians..everyone knows because it was beaten into you that every circuit whether DC or AC must have a fuse or breaker at the source.
