    Quickies part 2

For all those I gave books to for Christmas, they are due back to the library today.
  2. Legendary Australian musician Bruce Howe died in Adelaide on Wednesday aged 77 following a long cancer battle. Howe was the bassist for Aussie rock band Fraternity in the early '70s, which was led by former AC/DC singer Bon Scott. The band's all-star line up included Howe on bass, Scott on vocals and his long-time friend Jimmy Barnes as the replacement singer after Scott joined AC/DC. Barnes confirmed the heartbreaking news on social media. 'My dear friend Bruce Howe has passed away after a battle with cancer. Bruce was the first person I rang when I went solo,' he began. 'He played bass with my band and helped guide me through the early years of my career. He will be sadly missed. RIP, you were the most ferocious bass player I've ever heard.'
  3. This is one letter in today’s SMH: xxxxxx Truly, madly . . . I have been told by ChatGPT that in response to the Chinese AI DeepSeek platform, President Trump has ordered an emergency AI platform called DEEPSHIT to be developed (‘‘China’s DeepSeek miracle is not everything it seems’’, smh.com.au, January 30). It has been developed some miles up a paddle-less creek that runs into Silicon Valley. Ivan Head, Burradoo
  4. A guy on Facebook complained that he voted for Trump, but his Latino wife, who didn't have the correct documents, got deported. Got absolutely no sympathy. Main thrust of replies was "Serves you right for voting for him. He said what he would do."
  5. A post from Pete Buttigieg:
  6. Trump is blaming Democrat policies and DEI for the crash because the FAA hired people with physical and psychological problems, when last week he sacked all those people, who were replaced by lesser trained people.
  7. English singer Marianne Faithfull has passed away aged 78. The singer had previously suffered multiple health problems, including bulimia, breast cancer and emphysema caused by decades of smoking.
  8. Just read that while RFK Jr has told people to disregard warnings to get vaccinated, and declared himself an anti-vaxxer, all his kids are vaccinated/
  9. Correct. Billy Idol.
  10. In the past 2.5 years, I've driven 7.500 km. Thatequates to 60,000 km in 20 years. Could have been a retired old fart like me. That includes 22 km/day return, 3 days a week going to the Men's Shed where we are sharing with another group. In March we move to a new location where the travel will be 8 km/day return.
  11. Holden Astra Classic, 74600 km 3 mths rego, RWC, 12 months warranty.
  12. Nev, you know what I meant. If there was a thread on here about TV "reality" shows, like Married at First Sight, Great Australian Bakeoff, etc. I wouldn't bother to read them because I have zero interest.
  13. Like Kochy keeps telling us, "Compare The Market."
  14. My Festiva refused to start a couple of weeks ago. The battery had plenty of charge, it had half a tank of petrol, but would not fire. I'll admit, I'm no mechanic, so I called RACV road service. The service mechanic couldn't get it to start and said Get a tow truck and take it to a garage. That could have been expensive and there were other problems - air con not working, clutch starting to slip, difficulty getting it into 2nd gear, problems with suspension. Probably not roadworthy. I figured repairs would cost more than it was worth. I bought another car with less than 75km on the clock which had previously been registered in NSW. The dealer had to reregister it to sell it in Victoria. I picked it up yesterday, and the new rego was 2BU.7DZ. My son said "I have a nickname for your car -- Two beers under seven dozen."
  15. I've told you before Nev, if you don't like what's in a tupic, no one is forcing you to open and read it. I jeave many topics unopened, particularly on Rec Flying, where I have no interest in them.
  16. I enjoy a benefit of my smart meter with AGL. I can log on to my AGL account at any time, see my usage, and how my bill is progressing. I get an estimate of what my next bill will be and how many days to go. I can make small progress payments along the way, so when the bill actually issues, I have zero or a small nominal amout to pay. No bill shock.
  17. How do you guys navigate? If you get blown off course as easily as you get sidetracked on these topics, I'd hate to fly with you.
  18. When my son was cutting the lawn on Sunday afternoon, he said there was water leaking near the meter. By yesterday, we had a virtual creek running across the lawn. We turned off the water at the meter which stopped the flow, but we had to turn it on a couple of times to fill the cisterns and for him to shower for work. The plumber has just finished repairing it. --- $3,400!!
