facthunter Posted August 25 Posted August 25 My Mother did THAT when the Dept of Education Posted me to Sydney's Western suburbs. Maybe She thought I Would never return. I had My Own workshop Under the house where no one but Me ever went, and completely OUT of Sight but she said She HAD to tidy it Up. Nev 1

That means my parents were "fitter" than I was, which placed me in "survival" mode. Something I never knew about my Dad until I asked him one day, was that he thought the Holocaust was ok. I was studying WW2 and I asked him: "What do you think of the Jews?" (the Holocaust). I froze when he said in his old school language: "Good enough". Apparently, and I refrained from asking him anymore questions, he blamed the Jews for his parents breaking up because of the great depression, and for businesses going broke causing mass unemployment. But there I was, doing two years conscription, for my Dad, who cared nothing about six million Jews being liquidated. 1
facthunter Posted August 25 Posted August 25 You CAN Pick your friends BUT you CANNOT PICK your relatives. You are also drawing a long BOW to connect your Father's Beliefs with your circumstances. 2 things mainly affect where you end up as a person. Your genetic makeup and your life experiences (as you interpret them) Nev 1

I don't think `fitter' is the right word, more like `mean and callous' by the sound of it. You obviously did survive the experience however, so by your Darwinian definition, you proved to be the fittest. 1

Your parents deciding to dispose of your goods is no more related to your conscription than if I disposed of my sons goods because I lost my job when my employer went into liquidation. Totally unrelated. You have an unbelievable way of linking separate things together to suit your purpose. 2
facthunter Posted August 25 Posted August 25 There's never a shortage of "Selective Perception" or whatever the Latest Book McGraw Hill Publishes, Calls it.. Some cover it by saying" Don't let FACTS get in the way of a Good Story". Another Filter . "How do I know? The BIBLE tells ME so." I read SOMEWHERE, THAT.... Conventional Wisdom is that....Nev 1
Grumpy Old Nasho Posted August 25 Author Posted August 25 I have no children, so I'd better hurry up and produce some if my genes are to pass on. "To understand Darwin’s concept of fitness, we must let go of modern ideas about muscular strength or moral worth. In evolutionary biology, “fitness” simply means reproductive success: the ability to survive long enough to pass your genes to the next generation." Interesting read .... https://www.sciencenewstoday.org/survival-of-the-fittest-what-darwin-really-meant

Grumpy Old Nasho Posted August 26 Author Posted August 26 Misusing Darwin: The Rise of Social Darwinism In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Darwin’s ideas were twisted to fit dangerous ideologies. Thinkers like Herbert Spencer and others in the social sciences began applying “survival of the fittest” to human societies. They argued that poverty, illness, or social failure were signs of unfitness—and that helping the weak was interfering with natural selection. This was the birth of Social Darwinism. It became a tool for justifying economic inequality, colonialism, and even genocide. I've learned something, Darwin's theory gets misused as "Social Darwinism". I wonder how many politicians believe that the homeless for example, are victims of "unfitness", and justify it that way? I think capitalists would define people in a society as being either "fit" or "unfit", perhaps not out loud, but maybe think it anyway. 1
