1. I believe it is the industry we are in. Recreational aviation is cheap enough that allows people from all walks of life to get involved. But you add to that it is very much an alpha male activity compared to needle craft. You also then add the 3rd dimension of keyboard courage hidden behind anonymity. A huge recipe for disaster which is why moderation on the site is so extremely hard and it will always be wrong to a lot of people but we just hope it is right by the majority. The site quit often pulls me down into depression when I open it up and I often wonder why I am doing it with such a large cost to my family and I personally including every month when I click the payment button for the hosting. However, I hang on to the belief that it is helping others and keeping them safer and in fact saving a life or two whilst also helping the industry as a whole. One just has to look at the pressure this site has applied in such events as the RAAus board restructure, the aircraft registration fiasco, the current Jabiru situation, all events that you, the users, have helped shaped the outcomes to what the majority of recreational aviators want. I have pleaded, begged, moderated, tried so many different ways with everyone to make the site better in the sense of the topic of this thread to where it is a full time job, without pay, and without that I believe this site would have been an extra chapter in the book Lord of the Flies. But after 11 years now I have run out of methods so what we have is what we have and only one person can change it...YOU
2. That video doesn't really have what I am after, it is more of a document template system and some docs on learning about creating a small business...I am way past that
3. People are already getting very rich from it but this is completely new and revolutionary and will leave all of them behind which is why secrecy is a big part of it at the moment. I once had a job many years ago as the "Business Development Manager" for a large corporate and they said at the beginning that if I come up with 100 ideas and only 1 is accepted and works extremely well then I have been successful. At that firm I did come up with a lot of ideas all of which could have been successful but one that they approved ended up being their most profitable service ever and ended up being 40% of their whole revenue. Another one also many years ago when I was in construction Project Management. There was a pipe that wasn't approved for use in Vic so I got it approved so the company I worked for could be the sole distributor. But, what I did was to set up a 2nd company under a trust of the owners children's names, who had a different surname, to the owners and sell the pipe to our competitors. No one knew that the 2 companies were owned by the same people. This way we could give discounts to our competitors of what we liked and anyone tendering on the same job as us would not get a discount so we could win the tender and keep our company going well. It just started off as an idea and worked because when the owners sold both business's for a huge profit they retired, and although I got a nice payment for my services, I wasn't allowed to work in the construction industry for 2 years under the terms of the sale agreement that I had to agree to. As the advert says, from small things big things grow
4. No, its not in Aviation or I should say that could only be 5% or less of it, in fact it doesn't need to have anything to do with aviation at all
5. Just phoned them, as I am currently unemployed they can't offer anything. Must be working and then can apply for $30k for startup and up to $500k for existing business enhancement. I would be looking for say a progressive draw down totaling $250k over 6 months with substantial returns (possibly 300% or more) in year 2 and on Basically, in simple terms, employment of 3 people, say $20k costs and say $50k in advertising. 3 months before startup phase completed and then revenue begins. Break even after 6-9 months and full EOY return is kept as retained earnings for further expansion. Year 2 and above is full ROI at 300%+
6. Does anyone know hoe venture capital works? Say you have an idea that you believe could end up being extremely profitable however you don't have the funds to get it going so is venture capital a solution or are there other, better ways, of getting an idea off the ground?
7. Here is another use for an aircraft http://www.macrumors.com/2014/11/13/justice-department-fake-cell-towers/
8. Don't forget that many people get mixed up between the glass screen and the actual digitiser. The digitiser is a much more expensive part and extremely harder to replace
9. Just the iPhone 5 and Galaxy 4 at this stage are coming but I am waiting for the best prices on other versions and then order them. Soon I will be able to say how hard it is to replace the Galaxy 4 glass when they arrive and I do my one
10. Here is another interesting bit...A very little known Chinese smart phone manufacturer has the 2nd fastest download speed mobile phone. But what is even more interesting is Apple makes the slowest upload speed phone and Australia doesn't even rate in the speed area http://www.zdnet.com/who-makes-the-fastest-downloading-smartphones-in-the-world-hint-its-not-apple-7000035282/
11. Almost identical to mine but rest assured, the new Clear Prop shop will have stock of Glass Replacement kits. They are on their way and should arrive soon. The first lot are for the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4. That's what happens when you rub me up the wrong way with $120 - $180 quotes, now everyone will benefit
12. Yes and No, it is Chinese however if you buy from a respected dealer you can be assured that it is a clean OS without Baidu on it. For those that don't know, Baidu is the Chinese version of Google but with more reporting of your browsing habits being captured. Yes, Google does also capture your browsing habits but then you can turn this off but Baidu doesn't let you and even if it did I wouldn't trust it. This has been the issue with Xiaomi and the likes of other Chinese phones however Xiaomi is making a huge push to the western world and in doing so having anything like Baidu on it will instantly kill the billion dollar plans. I think it would be safe to say that they just can't financially let this happen. However, these reports centered specifically around one Chinese mobile phone called the Star N9500 which included other spyware
13. Every morning whilst having my coffee I read the latest technology news and the last few days have been stories on a little heard of Mobile Phone brand. Samsung is the highest seller of mobile phones world wide however they have experienced a 50% drop in profits this year which is causing a lot of comments and questions. The 2nd largest mobile phone seller is Apple who have had steady sales in the last 12 months however the storms brewing for them is the lack of supply of the new large version of the iPhone 6 PLUS the bendgate stories that are showing that the iPhone 6 is having a massive issue of their phones being bent when in a person's pocket. This is the only major issue that can be ticked by the store when someone returns a bent one, and there are many. The last issue is the hair gouging iPhone 6. Many users are reporting that when they take the phone away from their ear, their hair has become caught in the iPhone 6 housing causing painful hair removal every time they use their phone. The biggest story in the mobile phone market is that the 3rd largest selling mobile phone in the world is now Xiaomi. Have you heard of this brand? Not many people have however it is a Chinese manufacturer and their phones are budget priced compared to the pushing $1,000 latest mobile phones from Samsung and Apple. Watch this space as you will see Xiaomi phones coming at you from all directions and priced to make them a viable option to the non must have the greatest and latest brand hugging consumer. I dropped my Samsung Galaxy S4 the other day after many many other accidental manoeuvrings that I have done with my phone which only has shown that these Samsung Galaxy S4 phones are built like brick sh!thouses however this time, it fell flat on its face on concrete. The glass is cracked in a way that I like to show off to people my new phone background image but alas, the cracks do get in the way but the phone still works perfectly. I took it to a couple of stores and received quotes to fix it between $120 and $180. Crikey, I could buy a brand new Xiaomi phone for this. But, I was clever enough to purchase a new glass screen, with a DIY installation kit for only around $15. Who is making money in this world and does a mobile phone from the top 2 brands have to cost up to $1,000 but then is this worth it just so you can say "I have an iPhone 6 hahaha" to which you could reply, "So that is why you are bald"
14. Optus have been having trouble over the last few day...for me, it wasn't useable for a couple of hours this morning and I am on Optus Cable but it was only for International Sites as in the server is outside Australia like Recreational Flying is...It is on the agenda to get an Aussie server but they are so expensive to get what I have now
15. I bet you are on Optus or are using an ISP that runs on the Optus backbone...they are having heaps of trouble today with all International connections
16. Totally agree with you on that one Bushcaddy
17. Actually, I should clarify the above...that is from our own dedicated server that this site sits on and is based over in L.A. in the US. Here are local tests: From the Optus Speed Test site: http://speedtest.syd.optusnet.com.au/ and here from a test site that everyone can use at http://www.ozspeedtest.com/ Mirror: Optus Data: 97 MB Test Time: 10.01 secs Your line speed is 81.67 Mbps (81674 kbps). Your download speed is 9.97 MB/s (10209 KB/s).
18. This site is backed up to a separate disk on the server however every week I have to download the entire site and a backup of the databases which are then installed on my local PC and then verified just in case anything goes wrong. This process takes a couple of hours every week. Doing it today I thought how long would this process take if I didn't have access to, or the money to pay for, high speed Optus Cable connection. When I download the site files which range from 100meg to 2.8gig I get around a whopping 11.3 meg per second download speed so to download 2.8gig it only takes me around 4 minutes: This made me wonder what user generally get for their download speed and thus "is the site still ok with the page sizes that it has including images/thumbnails, scripts and content" What download speed do you generally have?
19. I can't remember where i got mine from so wheni was creating the post i just did a search and found that one...do a search and find one that is ok and let me know so i can update the post Others, i can remember getting my first what you could refer to as a PC (portable computer)...it was called a Kaypro 64. The lid of the box came off which was the keyboard, it had for memory a 6" amber screen and twin 5.25" floppies. It was the big banger in the day running cpm and cost just over $2,250 33 years ago
20. MS is rushing through Win 9 due to the heavy backlash against Win 8...suppose to be released some time between Oct 2014 and April 2015
21. http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/stardock_start8_vs_classic_shell2013?page=0,1 but there are many on the market however whilst Start8 is slightly better, Classic Shell is free
22. The 3rd thing I did was to bypass the login screen of Win 8.1. To have Win 8.1 log you in automatically do this: From the Start screen type "run". Click on Run and type "netplwiz". OK that and highlight your account. Like this: Uncheck "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer". Click Apply. Then enter your password and confirm it. Click OK. Restart your PC and when Windows loads it will automatically log you in.
23. Oh, also Win 8.1 doesn't come with the Win 7 games. These can also be downloaded and installed into Win 8.1: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9rypo5zxfp5d767/tRhHGG6zys
