There's a bit of aggro going on between a couple of members. Hardly the sort of thing that makes for a pleasant place to come and interact with others. The aggro does not carry any of the discussion to a suitable resolve. In fact, it diminishes respect for those creating th aggro, and respecting others should be a foundational rule for we members.

 

Let's make it the custom here to play the ball, not the man.

The written word in situations like forums can be misinterpreted becasue it lacks the nuances of voice. I caould type that Joe Blowe is a silly bugger. Can you tell from those words if I was being humourous or accusory? 

 

I think that we previously decided that it one wanted to make a statement then it should be accomanied by a reference to the source behind it. If that is done then I think it lessens the chance of persoanl attacks.

A joke that has a victim is not funny.  Its an assault. The action of Bullies..  Good argument should settle the discussion and One has to be entitled to express any considered view that is not vindictive. I will defend my hard earned reputation.. I'm fact seeking and Safety Orientated.. I'm probably the Most attacked Person on this site at present.  Why is that and why are people frightened to support me? THAT should not be happening... Nev

Not necessarily, but it helps if both sides can have a discussion without arguing and escalating differences of opinion or fact into personal criticism or ridicule.

You (or I) have to be Permitted to defend ourselves No?  Separate (verb) cause and effect and don't victim blame if it all becomes unpleasant. No one likes Blues, and I am very aware of that.. I don't desire to continue this BS with Jerry. Why can't HE just Leave it at that. He obviously doesn't CARE what I think about it.  THAT should ring  alarm bells. I've been Pleading for Proper debate  and discussion for ages.  Here we take funny stuff too  seriously and make jokes out of serious stuff.  A lot of very good Posts get destroyed. I thought it's for Pilots predominately. It SAYS "The Home of Aviation for ALL Pilots", on the other site. Maybe, but it's much better to defend your argument. Defending yourself usually doesn't end well for anyone.

 Semantics really. ARE you  saying just COP it?  Selective information and long posts are tedious to counter. .Personal attacks are Coward's bully boy tactics. Few would do it to your face. You can't really KNOW someone from their on line presentation very accurately. People get put inboxes to discredit their input. I'm not at all threatened by people with Knowledge. I'd welcome more of them, but why would they bother to come here?  Nev

I’m basically saying don’t defend yourself by attacking the other person. Stick to defending your opinion and keep personal criticism out of it. That applies to both sides. Just stating the obvious really.
