I'm with you, OME I've seen what psychological damage can be brought upon a person after one ill-thought-out comment about a work colleague on F-Book. I also got peed off when looking for up-to-date bushfire information on our official South Australian government Country Fire Service website, as we are continually exhorted to do. The young IT gurus employed to run the media output were putting all the new info on F-Book, including the latest fireground maps, and ignoring the official site. I reluctantly joined F-Book to get the info and then found it was impossible to delete the account afterwards, only to "de-activate" it. I still get crap emails from them. As a listener to ABC Local radio they also seem to have some commercial deal to push F-Book. Why are our government agencies so keen to back what I see as another commercial money-making enterprise (obviously a VERY successful one at that). I must be getting old and cranky!

We have a few of these fellows visit us, and their bigger relatives the Lace Monitor. The Border Collie will spend all day at the base of a tree to make sure they don't come down. It works, too- the lizards just find a comfortable spot and sleep all day.[ATTACH]47798._xfImport[/ATTACH]

I often wonder if city-based members really understand how good they have it. Just did a speed test on this site, and got 2.80 Kbps. We are 220Km North of Adelaide, 30 road Km from Port Pirie (our nearest "city") and don't get ADSL in any form (15 Km from exchange); NO 3G (or any G) signal so no mobile phone, and only get NBN interim satellite "broadband". We have been advised by letter that we are unlikely to ever see NBN in any other way. The more subscribers that get put on this scheme, the slower it gets. Sorry to whinge, but when I see what others get for far less monthly cost, I really wonder if our government even knows that not all citizens choose to live in capital cities, let alone care about them. Now off soapbox, and awaiting sympathetic? replies!

I still have my Microbee - bought in 1983 as a bagful of parts for $299. 2Mhz Z80 and 32K of CMOS Ram. Many hours with a soldering iron later, it worked! Used a doctored 12 inch B&W TV as a monitor and a cassette tape recorder for storage. It grew into 64K Ram and two 5 1/4 inch floppies, with a professional orange screen monitor. For years I have thought about getting it going again - might get around to it one day. P.S. Am I really that old now??
