  1. We , ( on the Blue mountains ) were waved on by the ' traffic police ' ,  because only 4wd

Vehicles could navigate the detour,  through a flooded road .

The rest of the vehicles had to wait hours,  before that road was reopened.

We watched it on the TV news , after getting home ,

So if a competent vehicle can ' safely ' navigate a flooded road .

Why penalise that driver ! .

Who knows , it could be an ses volunteer getting to a larger emergency,   rather than a couple of feet of water .

My ' deepest ' creek crossing  was to the bottom of the windscreen,

Towing a heavy rope , to be used for a stranded vehicle recovery .  All successful completed.

PS. : our " snorkel " is not for water crossings.

But to keep the " air-filter " out of the duststream " . When in convoy.

  2. Holden's were just as bad .

    A work colleague bought a brand new H Q Kingswood .

At the dealer's , he slammed the door shut and both the window winder & door handle fell onto his lap !. The dealer had to open the driver door to let him catch a taxi, at their expense .

My 'old ' Holden had " reciprocating ball bearings" in the steering box ! .

That left a ' lot of play ' in the steering wheel.

And those five stud wheels had four studs to hold the wheel to the hub assembly.

  3. That ' poor build ' was the first Tesla's . They were fixed under warranty,  but gave the maker a bad time .

The marvellous dood handles    as well as the sunroof mechanism ,  & along with window winder's wore-out quickly,

  4. You're forgetting! .

    No spare tyre .

    Evey puncture counts as a ' breakdown ' & as such needs a " lift tow truck '' .

To reach a tyre repair shop .

Tesla's have their own " carry that spare wheel " vehicles,  to change the ' flat-tyre ' .

( not always an electric vehical  ( my neighbour has a model3 Tesla )) .

I fancied a mercedes electric,  but they are way out of my reach.

Next BMW i4 electric.  Still too dear . My dear .

Oh dear. Back to Tesla . Missed out on an immaculate model  S 85 d .

So still looking for that one in a million car to stire my enthusiasm.

    A couple of cheap 'Renault Kangoo e z electric ' vans .

    on " Grays " auctions.

  6. England , in the 60s ' poured concrete  ' , and " turned the key " in the door .

Of a full block of flats .

    In just three weeks .

the floor's had heating wires in them , so no need for stand-alone heating .

It was a record at the time .

No more horses on Derby horse race track ,( Derby races ) .

The pub was of course, The Grand National.

  7. RR has it's own farms and pedigree bovines , just to keep their leather in pristine condition .

    Hence no barbed-wire , or even ' raspberry bushes ' .

SUPPOSEDLY , the best leather in the world .

My " Italian Leather " lounge suit only lasted 4 or 5 years before the arm-rests had holes in them .

Very thin were it had to be shaped over the " arm-rest " .

PS. :  who gets to eat the meat , from the world's most expensive beef .

  9. My cheap electricity has gone from 32 c p Kwh.

and is going ( according to Red energy ) , 39.somthing , per Kwh .

So 40 cents per kwh to charge an ev will not be that cheap .

    (  40 c, p,kwh into a 60 kw battery.  tesla S 85 kw )

  10. At one time the poms came here for holidays ! .

Now anytime more than 30 days should be a government paid, sentence in an over-sea's prison ,

which ever country that needs some money for locking up our criminals

it was done for Australian " criminal immigrants " . .

  11. Or, an " air-cooled " two-stroke.

I once parked behinda VW beatle  ( air-cooled )at a ' ski resort ' and was roundly told-off, " your block will freeze & crack at this hight,  with it's very low temperatures " .

So I had to drive a mile back down the mountain to the ( common man's ) carport .

No problems with ' water in the sump ' or ' Freeze cracked block ' .

  13. All IC motors  create h2o ! .

When cold the piston will not have expanded to seal the bore .

That's the big problem of short trips . Then that steam vapour condenses onto the still cold metal

And also onto the cold oil . Then that condensate sinks to the bottom & stays out of the heat  .

Awaiting the return trip to add a little  more.

my oil is nice & clear , so  no worries .

    spacesailor

    PS. :  A smaller motor , than my 4lt V6 ,

Would help to warm-up as less cold metal ' mass. ' to heat .
