  1. There is a smiley face mowed into the grass off the threshold of 12 at Caboolture. Not quite the same scale but always brings a smile when on short finals. I hope they keep it going.
  2. You have to carry a paper chart by law. Even if you didn't there is no way I would rely on something electronic, even though I have 2 GPSs I fly with. I use OzRunways and it has an emergency mode. If your subscription does run out you can put it in emergency mode and it still works. There is a limit on how often you can do that I think. In the plane on the Dynon there is a GPS and it used AvData maps I think. They are currently expired and just have a message over the location of the plane telling you that. It still works well enough to get you to within a few miles of where you want to go, but I don't use it anyway.
  3. There are people who can help with this, and they may be worth talking to. You will get more help than on a flying forum. They can help you get that perspective that is hard to see when at the coal face. Why not chat to a GP or give Beyond Blue a call?
  4. If you don't ask you don't get. So ask.
  5. How do you know there isn't infrastructure to help you? And when someone talks to you on the radio, say from ATC, it can be very reassuring. After you have settled down to flying, then call, it is worth it.
