I couldn't recall the exact incident when I wrote my previous post, but the one you quote is probably it. Grievous Bodily Harm would be the correct offence to charge with for a broken jaw. It is amazing that in this day and age you get into more trouble for calling an opposing player a monkey that for giving a black eye.

So in that case would you arrest the offending player?

What about stomping on the head?

Or punching a player or spectator?

Slight legal problem: When a person sets out to play a body contact sport, the law of assault (for the most part) ceases to exists. Each player, fully knowing that the game will involved body contact, agrees to allow it. It's the same with boxing, wrestling, and the Asian martial arts.

A bit of biffo in a tackle, or a head-high, and whatever is similar in AFL, is an offence covered by the rules of the game, and is dealt with by the controlling official. Any hitting incident that occurs "off the ball" and which results in an injury that requires an extended recovery period could be prosecuted criminally or civilly. However, there is no need for a pitch invasion by the constabulary to effect and arrest.

And that is the issue at heart.

If it's a obvious assault rather than a play incident the player should be immediately arrested.

Just like in any aspect of life.

The pitch is not invaded no more than officers entering any public property to effect arrest.

To imply pitch invasion is to make the pitch sacrosanct.

A immediate arrest says to society the rule of law is sacrosanct and violent assault is always a police matter.

Is their any other place in society where a violent assault in front of public and police would not result in immediate arrest?

    No.

It is irrelevant if the sport has sanctions at a later date, they are a employer not the State. Any penalty should be a matter for the courts, any sanction from the sport should be irrelevant to the case.

We don't let armed robbers off because they got punished by their employer.

A society that lets open violence in sport be televised and police condone it as "sport" breeds violent culture.

  3. I like the idea of sport but not violent tribalism which all the football codes seem to not just suffer from but actively promote.

The most dangerous ball sport is cricket but also the best behaved players and spectators. That ball can and will kill you, but the players won't.

And I hate the bullshit Anzac footy matches. They should not be hanging of soldiers bootstraps and made out as sport heros.

  4. Part of the problem I agree is violence in sport been accepted.

If you purposely harm someone in sport it should be a criminal charge just like off the field. Why have a magic field where laws don't apply? That attitude flows off the field and is very apparent in player behaviour off field and by supporters.

The next time a player has a "brain snap" call it for it's true form, a idiot who can't control been violent and should immediately be charged and arrested on field by the police who are attending. If that was the norm, culture would change.

Also the teams should be charged under workplace safety laws, they encourage a unsafe work environment and guys get permanent injuries. If you train players boxing you are responsible when they punch on.

Any cop who won't charge a violent player immediately is basically a coward and should hand in their badge, they are a big part of the problem. I can hear the outrage, but it's their job.

The violence unsanctioned means it is acceptable when clearly it is not legal nor moral.

  5. After your driver's launch into unstable orbit at Lemans not once or twice but three times?

Aero instability was always a design issue and the first crash proved it.

Even superman can't out drive being launch over a rise at 300+and you loose downforce and the air sucks the front of the car into the air. Now it's a airfoil and the car is suddenly airborne and flipping backwards at 300 +......faaarrk

Amazing crash safety but it's not if but how soon you crash.

The million people are just going back to the world we all lived in until twenty years ago.

But twenty years ago we had landlines, 000 answered the calls and things called phonebooths were everywhere.

The service guarantee was real not a corporate lie.

  7. The flying Merc was scary stuff, unless you are Mark Webber.

After his car flipped then his team mates the brass balled bugger still got in the backup car and drove like hell, until it flipped as well.

A he walked away both times, very stern stuff.

  8. Goulburn screaming hot in summer and bloody freezing in winter.

I lived there till 13. Still have family there and it's a nice little city these days.

The freeway bypass was a huge thing and stopped trucks speeding through the mainstreet at night.

Often a local got mowed down after leaving the pub at night and they were horrific when it happened, a bin bag job.

Not a smart place for crims with a super Max goal and the police academy.

Also home to one of the fanciest court buildings in the country. It was meant to be the Indian supreme court but the dumb poms sent the plans here instead. Been the richest town in the country from wool, they built it anyway.

THAT "British?'SHOW was well-timed and presented. You are going back a while. Wasn't it in Black and white?  Nev

It was colour and amazingly was actually based on Grace brothers in Sydney, strange but true.

Hence the character "young Mr Grace".

I heard an interview yesterday. Interviewer said "is it OK to describe you as blind? I know you are totally blind." Answer- "yes, that's OK, I identify as blind. But many don't, thanks for asking".

'"Sure, I am blind rather than vision impaired .

Do you mind if I call you intellectually impaired or do you prefer just plain stupid?"

Litespeed, are you making this up just to make me jealous? How do lures work in the dark?

Whatcha gunna do when ya get sick and tired of eating fish.... and blue swimmers.... and prawns?

The lures work fine, fish can see colours we don't and have acute night vision. What's looks boring silverfish to us can be a bright kaleidoscope of colours to them.

There is a real art cum science in making a quality lure.

The lure he used looked like a 5 inch prawn and also has metal rattle beads inside the soft body and integrated  hook. I can't remember the brand but the $20 at the marina fishing shop is a bargain as they work brilliant.

Mate has caught 3 big Jews and lure is still perfect, most don't last long at all. 20kg of fillets @ $40 min a kg- the wholesaler price to quality restaurants is $800 of flesh for a $20 lure!

Buying fresh Jew is not easy, rarely seen even at the markets.

What do I do when bored of such bounty?

Like all poor buggers, I eat Oysters. I ring a friendly guy and he delivers that day $15 a dozen for the best big Sydney rocks. Or  I just grab them off the rocks myself.

I also buy quality lamb, beef or organic chook and play chef.

Here is a pick from my best friends houseboat, they are all plate size fish- Tarwhine(fast growing bream).

They are actually treated as pets and love hanging about, like living at the aquarium.
