  1. OME,

The exact same could be said of police motorbikes, they need refilling just like IC cars do.

And breaks to pee are needed plus coffee, donuts etc.

The new fast charge cars can do 10-80% in 10 to 15 minutes.

I don't see it as a issue esp given the regen ability actually suits the highway patrol model well.

  2. Definately better in the medium and long term.

Intially it would shock and outrage people with the reality of the world we live in, but most seem shocked and outraged anyway esp those that only narrow cast views they agree with.

The world would be a very different place and much better for it.

As far as anonymous goes, we should be allowed to express ourselves but be responsible for what we say and the actions they cause. A moniker is Ok but the government and courts should be able to access your info.  Naturally this has big risks in dictatorships esp China, Russia etc. but they would collapse in a world of truthful politicians.

The web titans must be considered publishers and not immune from laws, as in the USA, where they have special legislation making them immune.

If they don't get taxed they have no right to exist and profit from a countries people. You can argue they just publish and advertise from another country, but any smart politicians could easily stop that, VPN use or not.

Just make it illegal for any web provider to transmit their platform and illegal to buy advertising for any Au operating  company  and those selling into Australia on the banned platform.  Any transaction on the platform would be considered illegal and like money laundering. Treat the buggers like organised crime until they obey with our countries laws. Naturally all top executives of the platform would be liable for jail if they break these rules and fines for the company of 3 times gross sales. Here is the kicker, call it the ""Musk law", the majority shareholder or majority voting rights shareholder is legal liable for any fines or law suits the company can't meet. That stops the pyramiding of companies.

As far as moderation goes, needs to be fast and human based not just AI, and should be done by separate arms of the platform with a guaranteed high funding level and a separate independent board. Failure to immediately takedown after a order to do so by the regulator should be $1,000 per view, that adds up very quickly. 1 million views is $ 1 billion in fines, also delete any cross posting of the offending post/video/misinformation.

Their business model would collapse or change to be legal.

I expect Elon Musk would wait until we fine him $100 billion but that's fine, we could be part owners in SpaceX.

Suddenly taxes would be paid, misinformation would be rare and easily debunked, and elections wouldn't be interfered with by tech billionaires, foreign governments ie Russia, China.

Think how nice our world would be.

The truthful pollies is a pipe dream but the changes to the web are realistic.

I couldn't recall the exact incident when I wrote my previous post, but the one you quote is probably it. Grievous Bodily Harm would be the correct offence to charge with for a broken jaw. It is amazing that in this day and age you get into more trouble for calling an opposing player a monkey that for giving a black eye.

So in that case would you arrest the offending player?

What about stomping on the head?

Or punching a player or spectator?

Slight legal problem: When a person sets out to play a body contact sport, the law of assault (for the most part) ceases to exists. Each player, fully knowing that the game will involved body contact, agrees to allow it. It's the same with boxing, wrestling, and the Asian martial arts.

A bit of biffo in a tackle, or a head-high, and whatever is similar in AFL, is an offence covered by the rules of the game, and is dealt with by the controlling official. Any hitting incident that occurs "off the ball" and which results in an injury that requires an extended recovery period could be prosecuted criminally or civilly. However, there is no need for a pitch invasion by the constabulary to effect and arrest.

And that is the issue at heart.

If it's a obvious assault rather than a play incident the player should be immediately arrested.

Just like in any aspect of life.

The pitch is not invaded no more than officers entering any public property to effect arrest.

To imply pitch invasion is to make the pitch sacrosanct.

A immediate arrest says to society the rule of law is sacrosanct and violent assault is always a police matter.

Is their any other place in society where a violent assault in front of public and police would not result in immediate arrest?

    No.

It is irrelevant if the sport has sanctions at a later date, they are a employer not the State. Any penalty should be a matter for the courts, any sanction from the sport should be irrelevant to the case.

We don't let armed robbers off because they got punished by their employer.

A society that lets open violence in sport be televised and police condone it as "sport" breeds violent culture.

  5. I like the idea of sport but not violent tribalism which all the football codes seem to not just suffer from but actively promote.

The most dangerous ball sport is cricket but also the best behaved players and spectators. That ball can and will kill you, but the players won't.

And I hate the bullshit Anzac footy matches. They should not be hanging of soldiers bootstraps and made out as sport heros.

  6. Part of the problem I agree is violence in sport been accepted.

If you purposely harm someone in sport it should be a criminal charge just like off the field. Why have a magic field where laws don't apply? That attitude flows off the field and is very apparent in player behaviour off field and by supporters.

The next time a player has a "brain snap" call it for it's true form, a idiot who can't control been violent and should immediately be charged and arrested on field by the police who are attending. If that was the norm, culture would change.

Also the teams should be charged under workplace safety laws, they encourage a unsafe work environment and guys get permanent injuries. If you train players boxing you are responsible when they punch on.

Any cop who won't charge a violent player immediately is basically a coward and should hand in their badge, they are a big part of the problem. I can hear the outrage, but it's their job.

The violence unsanctioned means it is acceptable when clearly it is not legal nor moral.

  7. After your driver's launch into unstable orbit at Lemans not once or twice but three times?

Aero instability was always a design issue and the first crash proved it.

Even superman can't out drive being launch over a rise at 300+and you loose downforce and the air sucks the front of the car into the air. Now it's a airfoil and the car is suddenly airborne and flipping backwards at 300 +......faaarrk

Amazing crash safety but it's not if but how soon you crash.

The million people are just going back to the world we all lived in until twenty years ago.

But twenty years ago we had landlines, 000 answered the calls and things called phonebooths were everywhere.

The service guarantee was real not a corporate lie.

  9. The flying Merc was scary stuff, unless you are Mark Webber.

After his car flipped then his team mates the brass balled bugger still got in the backup car and drove like hell, until it flipped as well.

A he walked away both times, very stern stuff.

  10. Goulburn screaming hot in summer and bloody freezing in winter.

I lived there till 13. Still have family there and it's a nice little city these days.

The freeway bypass was a huge thing and stopped trucks speeding through the mainstreet at night.

Often a local got mowed down after leaving the pub at night and they were horrific when it happened, a bin bag job.

Not a smart place for crims with a super Max goal and the police academy.

Also home to one of the fanciest court buildings in the country. It was meant to be the Indian supreme court but the dumb poms sent the plans here instead. Been the richest town in the country from wool, they built it anyway.
