Is using E10 in your car worth the 2 cents per litre saving?
Downunder replied to old man emu's topic in Auto Discussions
Alcohol fuels have a higher octane than petrol? If E10 is 91 octane, does this mean the actual fuel proportion has an octane less than 91 and the ethanol bumps it up? -

Going against the grain, my 2005 1.5 Getz hated any fuel other than 91. Don't know why but economy dropped OFF with 95 or 98. Best car I've owned. Never missed a beat. After 314 000 kms (10 yrs) I gave it to my niece and am 12 000 kms into a new Isuzu ute (4X2). 4jj1 turbo engine. I've wondered about these "chips" and if they're worth it? Pretty expensive. Getting 900kms from 72ltrs out of the 76 ltr tank currently(8l per 100). Will let it run-in some more then go full synthetic oil. Have already put in a K&n air filter... Would really like to get 1000k's a tank but not sure it's possible...... Anyone running biodiesel or derivative ? -
I look at it as a simple risk/reward situation. RISK: You get executed if you get caught..... REWARD: Get away with it and you live a lavish life of wealth, nice cars and houses. Flashy girlfriends.......etc They played "the game" and were caught. Simple. Should have been taken out the back of the court 10 years ago and finished off there and then........

I feel very sorry for those parents who have children that die or become permanently disabled due to a vaccine. Very hard to tell them it's for the overall good of the community.... -

How Australia Perfected Solar Power and Then Went Back to Coal
Downunder replied to Downunder's topic in General Discussion
I worked in the same place (middle of WA) for the last 10 years. Driving the bus in winter, in the first few years, I had to start the bus, put the heater on and then go have breakfast to allow the ice to melt. EVERYDAY The last few years there have been no frosts/ice at all. Some years I would wear a jumper or coat up until December but now never after September..... It is getting hotter.......fact. -
It's taken me 18 months of extremely hard work to get it.....had to totally re-invent my persona......to p**s-off management to the extent needed was a massive feat. So proud...(said a little bit tongue-in-cheek) Everyone here will be "down the road" at some point in the future. They have been bleeding off people slowly for a few years to avoid publicity.... No....aspx

I was given a reminder today to fill out my anonomous employee survey. It seems management know if it has been completed or not. I always find it oxymoronish (Dazza?) that we are given a unique password/login for it... As I'm in the process of being made redundant, I can't say my opinions were very favourable...... Probably would have been best for all concerned to let it slide.........Oh well!!

No matter which party is "in", the opposition simply "opposes"....... such a shame....

What's to see in Sydney and Perth?
Downunder replied to Head in the clouds's topic in General Discussion
Last time I went to the RAAFA museum it was the middle of summer too and as there's quite a lot to look at, it's something of a day trip I recon. Anyway, by midday it must have been about 45 degrees in that big steel shed......Made a mental note that winters the go next time..... *Not sure if it's aircon now but doubt it* -

Fremantle and Rottnest are nice but within the time constraints too much time would be wasted. There is no "peak times" for traffic now. It is always "peak"! Value for money/time stick to a city walkabout. Cherry pick your venues. As stated above, anything outdoors will more than likely be very hot...... and not that enjoyable in the middle of the day. All you'll want to do is get somewhere cool........ -

http://www.raafawa.org.au/museum/ http://museum.wa.gov.au/museums/shipwrecks ( http://museum.wa.gov.au/ ) http://www.perthmint.com.au/visit_the_mint_visit_the_perth_mint.aspx http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attractions-g255103-Activities-Perth_Greater_Perth_Western_Australia.html I like the tripadvisor list. A months worth of stuff there. Take your choice. There's probably enough things to look at just walking around the city centre for 2 days. If your accomodation is booked there, you're laughing. -
I need some of your cherries......

Rule number 1. Never give any money free......it just doesn't work.... I believe the biggest beneficiaries from the baby bonus were Harvey Norman and the local bottle shops.....

Should all qualifications be merged to "one card"?
Downunder replied to Downunder's topic in General Discussion
SA motor vehicles would have nothing to do with your flying requirements. The RAA would simply tell whoever the card issuer is "put xxx on joe blows card". Thats it. The existing Governing bodies would still control your licences/ certificates. -
Should all qualifications be merged to "one card"?
Downunder replied to Downunder's topic in General Discussion
I'm not advocating one licence for everything, just one (physical) card to place them all on. -
I got asked to show my qualifications to operate some machinery the other day but didn't have the card on me. My excuse was that I didn't want to carry a wallet full of cards to only pull them out once every xx years. Wouldn't it be so much easier to carry all qualifications on one card?

Until our politicians overcome the need for projects to finish within their term (lest the oppostion gain government and claim it as theirs), there will continue to be no nation building schemes. The last 15 year mining boom should have set the country up for the rest of this century, piping fresh water from the north of the country south. On both the east and west coasts. Turning arid land into irrigated farmland. What do we have instead? Oranges from california...WTF.... I was just reading a news article where a chinese company was employed to turn arid land into viable farming land. Apparently they are experts in this field... My first thoughts were "Why are we not experts in arid farming."

Will it be the poorer nations that utilize and adapt to "green" power solutions faster, as they struggle to afford natural resource energy? Brazil has seen its first generation of wave power after a machine has started generating energy in the country’s coastal waters. The wave converter prototype has started producing power as part of the Brazil Electricity Regulatory Agency’s (ANEEL) R&D project. The prototype, which is located on the coast of Porto do Pecém, in São Gonçalo do Amarante, Ceará, has successfully powered all lighting, air conditioning and auxiliary systems in a research plant in the area. This development is an important step for onshore wave power generation in Brazil. ANEEL said: “This small generation of power represents a great progress, as the Brazilian coast presents good conditions for energy use, due to its proximity to consumers in cities with high population density.” Rio-based COPPE Submarine Technology Laboratory developed and installed the 50 KW prototype, which consists of two modules, each with a floater, branch and pump. Once fixed on break water, these contribute to a single set of turbines, generator and hyperbaric chamber. ANEEL claims the prototype’s “easy production” gives it an edge over others available on the market. An additional advantage of this technology is the potential for coupling it with desalinisation systems, ANEEL said. Desalinisation by reverse osmosis is an efficient way to obtain drinkable water from the sea. The prototype and research plant are part of the “Deployment of Onshore Waves Converter Prototype on Sea Conditions of the Northeast of Brazil” project. Operations and trials for the prototype continue at the plant. The project will continue for 36 months.
