There was a photo running around from one of the Build conferences , a shot of the audience with 2/3 of the notebooks with the Apple logo on the lid.. I think it has become more a ' status symbol' thing than necessarily the 'best' hardware. I have setup Surface Pro3s for customers .. good quality, but the keyboard arrangement need work.. ie a fixed keyboard dock like Acer Toshiba etc I run an Android simulator ( Bluestacks) on my PCs to test the Android FP systems before committing to hardware, wish there was an IOS simulator similar..

It is working fine with my present batch of printers.. 2 year old Canon inkjet 10 year old HP Laser and 6 month old Samsung MFP.. I have a Canon standalone scanner that I haven't used for a while.. Will install that to confirm. From what I have found anything that runs on 7/8 seems to work, also nVidia and AMD are on the ball with new drivers so I haven't had a problem with video ( Intel only support card that work with Win8). As to subscription /perpetual .. Apple have doing free upgrades forever ..(they put that cost into the cost of the hardware) where as MS don't have control of hardware so need to sell the OS. Office included the subscription model when 2013/365 was released as a sustatial saving in TCO (total cost of ownership)

Have been running 10 on test units since it was released to the Insider Program. It has its ups and downs throught the development versions, but most of the early bugs have been eliminated with the latest build to the point that I have now changed my main personal PC to 10 so to get the 'real world' feel.. I should be good when released.. there is an article some where that basically said 7+8=10. There was a long involved reason given for skipping '9' for the media frenzie, but the simple boring reason was to not cause naming confusion with Windows 95/98.. The biggest problem with original '8 was the out of the box 'Metro' screen that just frightened the loud mouth Windows Critic pureists ( read stick in the muds) that they canned it without actually bothering to do proper testing.. no real installer ever left the units they setup that way, as with the addition of two or three third party additions it once again looked and felt like '7.. but with the major advantage of the visable speed increase .. At the latest update 8.1.x MS has fixed nearly all the 'concerns'. Now 99% of machines I sell are Win8.1.

Wikipedia: The Salmon of Doubt: Hitchhiking the Galaxy One Last Time is a posthumous collection of previously unpublished material by Douglas Adams. It consists largely of essays about technology and life experiences, but its major selling point is the inclusion of the incomplete novel on which Adams was working at the time of his death, The Salmon of Doubt (from which the collection gets its title, a reference to the Celtic myth of the Salmon of Wisdom). English editions of the book were published in the USA and UK in May 2002, exactly one year after the author's death. The original intention of The Salmon of Doubt was a Dirk Gently novel. Adams commented that some of the ideas he developed in Salmon of Doubt were not really working within a Dirk Gently framework. Those ideas would have been salvaged, undergoing necessary changes on the way, and put into a sixth Hitchhiker's book; as he thought that the last book in the series, Mostly Harmless, was a very bleak book and wanted to finish on a slightly more upbeat note. The plot, set a few weeks after the events in The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul, involves Dirk Gently refusing to help find the missing half of a cat, receiving large amounts of money from an unknown client, and then flying to the United States.
