  1. And how does that particular Genesis phrase support regeneration??? Up until the 1500's, the church believed that a man had one rib less than a woman, because of the creation of Eve from Adam's ribs , based on an an account in Genesis. It was only when Vesalius performed an autopsy that proved otherwise, that the church was dragged kicking and screaming to the truth of the matter. So much for the bible teachings being followed. And quoting Genesis (well, lets face it, any of the bible) can quickly turn into a 2 edged sword, due to its numerous inconsistencies. Now, can any biblical scholar out there tell me, for example, was Adam created before or after the animals? (see below) According to genesis, he was created both before AND after. I really dont give a toss about this, but before you start quoting "the holy bible" or suchlike, be aware that its full of errors. Trouble is, biblical types refuse to even acknowledge these problems in their infallible writings. ============================================================================================ Man created AFTER animals 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forthabundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 1:22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. 1:23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. 1:25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. ..... 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Man created BEFORE animals 2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. 2:19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
  2. Bikky, I find your lack of faith disturbing!!! As an ordained Pastafarianism minister in the Church of The Flying Spaghetti Monster, I can only hope and pray you see the truth, and become one with his sacred noodlyness. “Accept His Noodly Magnificence into your heart, into your soul, and ye shall forever be free. R'Amen.” —Ragu on Pastafarianism Now let us pray The Noodles Prayer, which is the most common prayer, as dictated by the prophet Ragu: Our saucer which art in a colander, draining be Your noodles. Thy noodle come, Thy meatballness be done on earth, as it is meaty in heaven. Give us this day our daily sauce, and forgive us our lack of piracy, as we pirate and smuggle against those who lack piracy with us. And lead us not into vegetarianism, but deliver us from non-red meat sauce. For thine is the colander, the noodle, and the sauce, forever and ever. R'Amen.
  3. Deb the person who makes up false details? Non existent dead relatives? She has been exposed, as have ALL so-called psychics. Not one as ever passed truly scientific test - same for water diviners, and all that ilk. Particularly nasty breed, who prey on peoples sufferings. But, there are always people who are easily fooled, and quick to part with their money. Harry Houdini spent a lot of time trying to contact his dead mother, and ended up becoming psychics' worst nightmares as he took on a personal campaign to discredit them.
  4. So, you're now a God??? But I dont believe in gods. Therefore you cannot exist. byeeeee....
  5. I'll bite - where is the 666, and what is the relevance? (6 Apollo, 5 Surveyor, and 8 Luna missions.) I havent ever heard of that in reference to the moon or missions to the moon, I must admit
  6. Oh Don, you just don't get these christians. As Avocet said , when talking about the creation of , well, everything, <<"Hebrew : Day = yom , a period of time 6 periods of time .>> Thus, time is relative. So the Christian 6,000 years (which by the by was only calculated by some obscure bishop, whose name escapes me) COULD be 6,000 years, or 6 Billion or 25 days for all they know or care. They can claim anything, and back it up with wild interpretations depending on what is needed for a particular argument. And man landing on the moon? - piffle - show me the bible tract where that happened.
  7. Clutching at straws??? The literally hundreds of peer-reviewed papers published each year doesnt sound like straw clutching. And coverups hey - the last refuge when you refuse to face your own beliefs with a critical eye. Show me (an actual, peer-reviewed example) and not more slogans, of an actual coverup. Go on - JUST ONE ACTUAL COVERUP - Nup, didnt think you could. And for evolutionary mechanisms, try reading "In Search of the Double Helix", by John Gribbin. You will become a little better educated
  8. ahhh what absolute horsehockey. How you guys can argue against something, without the faintest understanding of the mechanisms behind evolution, gives me pause to wonder about what critical thinking process (if any) you guys bring to bear in all other aspects of your life. Like I (and many others) have said, go read a scientific explanation of evolution with your eyes and mind open.' ....Random chance SEEMS far too unbelievable.... sheesh - don't believe in it, go read evolutionary theory, then you don't have to believe it, you can read evidence. There are probably more pages published per month just about aspects of evolution, than are contained the entire bible. Go read a few articles, and for god's sake try to get out from behind a few well-worn, intellectually dishonest phrases. And by the way, do you BELIEVE in the theory of Quantum Electrodynamics?? No? Neither do I. We both accept that it is a valid description of the phenomena involving electrically charged particles interacting by means of exchange of photons and represents the quantum counterpart of classical electromagnetism giving a complete account of matter and light interaction. We don't BELIEVE the theory, but we all accept it as the best current description of a natural behaviour ( and a bloody accurate description at that). Same for the theory of Evolution. Just suck it up, accept it and get over your goat herder ramblings.
  9. Lets clear up one thing that's bugging me, Gnu. Without reference to the bible or ancient texts, why do YOU (not anyone else) think evolution is unsupportable. There's nothing in the bible that mentions Darwin's origin of the species, so why does it bend you out of shape?
  10. Actual chapter and verse please. And is it circular or globular...ie disc vs soccer ball?
  11. Julian or Gregorian calendar????
  12. Not ONE of your references follows a standard, scientific, peer-reviewed methodology, but are the ramblings of simplistic thought, often coupled with religious fantasies (how long do we gotta listen about the Knights Templars' activities, FFS). Show us ONE paper from your multiple 500 page volumes that would stand scrutiny in "Science" magazine, New Scientist, or Scientific American. Until then, they are meaningless drivel, and unworthy of devoting time to.
  13. You cant agree or disagree - its part of the dogma you follow GG - you have no choice in what to believe.
  14. NUP. You're trying to have it both ways, GG. Your bible says that the only way to heaven is thru Christ. No other way, sorry. According to my now superseded Catholic upbringing, they will go to hell (or to limbo, if you're an RC who wears their heart on their sleeve - woozes). We actually got told that heaven was only for christians, and that christians other than RCs were in a separate section, behind a brick wall - sort of second class heaven for them. This was actually one reason I couldn't continue believing my childhood indoctrination. That, and other obvious nonsense (or should I say non-compliance) such as the section in the bible about the sparrow (Matthew 10 something or other. I was/am unable to believe in a FATBOTG who was so uncaring towards huge human suffering, and decided that it was impossible to continue having any religious faith. Another question GG. Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then where does evil come from? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?
  15. ....you cannot scientifically prove no God, ergo it's a faith..... - utter, utter cods-wallop. I cannot PROVE there are no polka dotted geese. You cannot PROVE a negative existential proposition. How you can go from a universal negative to prove another concept is weird, and totally illogical. I choose to not believe in a god, or follow a faith based belief system, yet that non belief then becomes a faith?? Rubbish. Faith requires belief. Do you believe in the non-existence of gods from other religions? What about Jupiter, Mars and the other Roman gods. You are implicitly making the negative existential claim that all gods contradictory to the Christian god do not exist. Rather an arrogant belief system, denying all other religions any validity, dont you think? I'm not sure why the abortion argument is being dragged out, but tread carefully, or you'll become aware that lots of christians participate, and even our esteemed ex jesuit Prime Miniser allows abortion to proceed. Don't know what point you're trying to make. And if you want things pointed out, what about the rampant child abuse by religious clergy being uncovered by the Royal Commission. Religion and faith doesnt seem to stop them getting their hands dirty. Didnt see many atheists being interrogated by the Royal Commission. Religion doesnt automatically make you a better or worse person. Being an atheist doesnt automatically make you a better or worse person.
  16. Atheism is NOT a philosophy, GG. The tyrants you mention were driven by a Marxist philosophy. To continue this "atheists are inherently evil" line is a nonsense. To quote Sam Harris We do not have words for people who doubt that Elvis is still alive or that aliens have traversed the galaxy only to molest ranchers and cattle. Atheism is nothing more than the noises reasonable people make in the presence of unjustified religious beliefs. And just by the way, your statement Tens of millions of dead people (i.e. tidbits to you) is so incredibly offensive to any normal person, I cannot understand where you come from, if you (and your oh so caring Christian faith) truly believe that atheists value other people's lives so little. Do you REALLY think that?
  17. Sorry, but I wasn't using the platypus as an example of an invertibrate. I was actually pointing out the differences in eyes between vertebrates like us, and invertebrates, like octopuses... (pi?) . I certainly could have structured that response more clearly.
  18. No, it doesn't. The eyes of vertebrates (such as us) and invertebrates (such as an octopus) developed independently. We have an "inverted" retina with associated blind spot. Invertebrates don't have an inverted retina, and consequently don't have a blind spot. Doesn't this fact support evolutionary theory? After all, why would the grand intelligent designer (aka fairy at the bottom of the garden) do something twice, and leave us with an inferior product, unless he/she was either experimenting on us, or incompetent
  19. yesssssssss, ok I would agree with that statement. But you're implying that the current Pope does not follow that principle. So, in words of one syllable or less (I'm more than a little bit simple), please explain your implication, always remembering that the "words" of Christ were not copied down verbatim, but written down (with possible accidental or purposeful alteration) years after the fact - ahh that is assuming that christ was a genuine historical figure, of course.
  20. Is the Pope now a dud, cause he doesn't hold with your world view? And please don't try to conflate "creation" with "creationism" or it's bastard offspring "intelligent design". I dont think anyone will argue that things are created. Go look up what a quantum vacuum is, and the way things (no, not dinosaurs GNU) are literally created from nothing. However, that ain't creationism, which is what you are trying to imply is the same as creation.
  21. Well, where do the God botherers and evolution deniers go now????? Evolution is real and God is no wizard, says Pope Francis Read more: http://www.smh.com.au/world/evolution-is-real-and-god-is-no-wizard-says-pope-francis-20141029-11dcon.html#ixzz3HTZbVmF2
  22. As we're tossing around references, and disputing the theory of evolution (oh FFS), go read "In search of the Double Helix - Quantum Physics and Life", by John Gribbin. Unlike that "Forbidden History" s**t , this presents the basis of the theory of evolution from the aspects of quantum physics and molecular biology, showing how it ties into DNA and Darwin's theory. Take the time to read it - you might just begin to understand the basis for evolution from a genuine scientific perspective. SPOILER ALERT!! Sorry, but this book doesn't have any articles written by tossers about Atlantis, and is not about, and I quote "how those with vested interests are firmly entrenched and filter out most everything that might threaten the accepted world view".
  23. Not for years, but did a lot of work with VAX-C and Foxboro process controllers, etc. I can have a look if u wish..
  24. well, if we can just stop pretending that our political parties are as important as our respective football clubs that we support, and actually distil what old man emu said, I think you would get a lot of agreement. The politicians want us to work longer before we get the pension The jobs for whatever reason (especially when you get into my age bracket) are simply not there. So, what does one do to eek out what could be a miserable existence.. Where is the common sense / logic in the treasurer's position (DON'T turn this into a he said/she said nonsense argument). It is bloody stupid
