  1. I often wonder where we are going in this country. . . here is a sign, written in Polish. . . to educate the large number of Polish immigrants and guest workers living in the neighbourhood that 'Putting their litter in a bin' is a good idea.?

Hey Phil, Only in Polish?....That`s not so bad, considering the number of nationalities you have there!

A couple of days ago, I saw a public sign in Cairns, written in English and Chinese! A few years ago, it would have been written in English and Japanese!!! Sign of the times, I guess!

What worries me about the subject is that we have between one and two million foreign people working and living in the UK, not visiting for a few days. . . ( If those figures are correct, and with virtually non existent border control, I doubt it. . .) what about those who drive motor vehicles daily and can't read road signs ?

That is a serious and dangerous situation! Over the last couple of years, there have been several fatal accidents in the surrounding Cairns area, where foreign drivers, who have come from countries where they drive on the right side, have driven onto the the left side and caused head-on collisions! Driving in Australia is on the left side of the road.

Is it the end of Europe??? I reckon Europe is not dead yet, but it is awful sick!

  2. At this rate, does this now make them an endangered species?? Do we need to take serious steps to try and preserve this death-wish mob, before they become extinct??Or should we just let them continue to rush to their total extinction? Answers on a postage stamp, please.

To my mind, there is no answer to the situation that would fit on a postage stamp!

Why do so many still want to climb mount Everest, when so many have died, attempting it, in the past?...Why do so many still want to race motor bikes, at the Isle of Man TT races when the possibility of someone being killed in the next race, is extremely high?

If the objective is to save every individual, from themselves, then I doubt very much there is an answer, but as with most things, lessons will have been learnt from those who have taken the first steps.

  3. When I was a young bloke and before the mechanical sugar cane harvesters came into the sugar industry, there would be hundreds of men, of all nationalities, in every sugar cane growing town, through out Queensland! They were the men who cut and loaded the sugar cane, to be sent to the various sugar mills, for processing into raw sugar...They lived, mostly on farm, in what was called "The Barracks."....In those days, most of the cane cutters had guns, of one sort or another and they regularly went out to the bush, to hunt the Brush Turkey, for food.... The cane cutters wern`t the only ones doing the hunting, either!...Like a lot of kids of my era, I had a .22 rifle and I was a pretty good shot.

In the rain forest, the turkey stays on the ground, scratching for food, most of the day and they are difficult to find because of the vegetation.... Most hunters had dogs, mostly, Fox Terriers, trained to find and chase the turkey into a tree....Once it was in the tree, the dog would stay at the base of tree, barking at the turkey, until the hunter found the tree..Some guys were not satisfied, with one or two, they`d bag as many as they could and turkey`s became scarce.....Finally! The turkey became protected and the cane cutters were fazed out by the machines...With no more hunting, the number of turkey`s has increased dramatically.

Last week, Fran and I took a couple of people to the Goldsborough camp site, in the national park...Brush Turkey`s were scratching around, not the least bit concerned that we were there.

This is the Scrub Fowl or Scrub Hen, also found in the rain forest.

  4. Once you're over 100 kmh, sudden stops against brick walls makes no difference as to if it was 200 or 300 kmh.

Yep...I road bikes....Loved going as fast as I could, for the condition....I always believed that if I came off, chance of survival was very slim.

Yeah, sure they do it by choice, bet their mum's don't share the same opinion ... and dads, sisters, brothers, children, wives, girlfriends, friends .

You`ve opened up a can of worms there...Makes for some interesting debate!!!

"Mums, dads, sisters, brothers, children, wives, girlfriends, friends," all are either, directly or indirectly, affected by what occurs! They all have legal rights and to my knowledge, at least in Australia!.. Anyone one of those people, can sue for damages and anyone of those people can sue on someone else`s behalf.

To my mind! The question is! Where does the responsibility and obligation of all those officially connected to the event, begin and end, and to whom do their obligations apply?

  5. Due to the death rate, does the race need to be speed limited,or, even banned?...As tragic as it is, I wouldn`t like to be the one to make such a decision. These guys know the risk involved and they to do it by choice!

So far this year, twenty people have died, as a result of road accidents, in and around the Cairns area of Far north Queensland.

Yeah! Don`t we all!!!!!.....Getting old is a bitch.

both being the only very lucky survivors of a 1974 C182 plane crash at Batchelor NT.

Ross, I reckon you`ve had a lot courage in continuing to do what almost took your life. spacer.png:score 010:spacer.png
