  1. It's not that we like electricity produced by burning coal ( or burning anything) BUT there is no viable alternative. At This Time.....Solar's no good for most and it's not sufficiently efficient yet. Wind and wave are investmentally difficult to manage. Plus coal fired electric is what comes out of the wires. Now, today................. If you don't like it then don't use it.....Solar power is not perfected, yet. Battery storage is not there either. Australia has Lots of coal and Lots of gas. and it has to suffer the tranny of distance....I can't see a politically acceptable alternative on the horizon, yet. If a government in power says "We are going to have solar/whatever electric generation, But it's going to cost you 2 (or 4 ) grand extra a year, they will not be on power for long......The opposition will quickly jump on the opposition bandwagon with "If you vote us in we'll repeal that expensive / alternative energy" And win in a landslide.....Did not that very thing happen to Dr. John H? So the solution has to be politically acceptable or it wont fly...Governments are there to remain in power, Not to kite expensive alternatives, they'll just be shooting themselves in the foot and will be unable to govern (their ultimate goal)
  2. atheist= not believing in magic
  3. QuOTE "So that puts the Yanks in debt $536 for every man woman and child, but us "innovators" here in Australia only owe $326.5 billion, which puts us in debt $13,838 for every man woman and child" ..........OUCH..... do some math please, You'll find that the debt in USA is $55,000 per person with a population of about 300 million. strange argument , about as bad as my "athesist rant"
  4. 80knts Quote : " I am not sure how 40% of Americans believing the Noah's ark event has anything to do with 31,000 scientists signing a petition." I'll just tell you what it has to do with anything.... It suggests that there are an awful lot of really f***king stupid people around the U.S. that will sign up for any old twaddle, ( Don't forget , 93% of American citizens are practicing Christians ( thus believe in magic) which puts the value of their opinion severely in doubt) and maybe, just maybe, some of the 31000 scientists are among them.....It's not irrelevant...goes to credibility
  5. That argument doesn't cut the mustard! 40% of Americans believe the Noah's ark story!
  6. In my experience Asian strip joints are not only very hot ,but dark too, and I thought light was heat, not dark?
  7. Perhaps someone saw "L" in LPG and confused Lithium with Liquified? In NZ it's (was) sold as CNG...different system to our LPG
  8. I would have thought that gas fired electricity generation was the way to go, instead of shipping the LPG (Liquified P? Gas) off to China and Japan for short term gain and long term loss.......
  9. For transmission of solar power from sunny Alice to cloudy Melbourne you are going to use what? The German comparison thing just wont cut the mustard due to two facts (at least) .We live on a continent of 7,7 MILLION km2 , Germany is 360 THOUSAND km2. Australian population density is 3 people per km2 ...........For Germany it's 235!............ These two facts conspire to make it IMPOSSIBLE to compare power consumption prices and usage. Yes you could cover the Simpson Desert with solar panels and wind farms. So how you going to get the power across a continent, say 2000 kms .in each direction....Want to pay for that in your next bill?......................You can live off solar energy alone, part time..... My mate did it for 20 years. (12 panels and batteries) But don't ask what time he went to bed or how much TV he watched....or how much LPG and diesel he consumed.....It wasn't cheap...My airco is 5kw....... How many panels would I need to run that?......Oh Dear, I can't have solar panels cause the council wont let me cut down any trees. "Bad for the environment " they said!....
  10. It's quite easy to understand , generally, those that read, can spell. I find that a misspelled word sticks out, in a sentence, like a sore thumb. I find that it grinds on my senses. Which is a shame as I have better thing to do with my time and effort......Please try to spell well.
  11. ha ha ha you are making a joke ? Right?
