I'm not having a go at our local council, which is the operating authority for the aerodrome. Those building regulations are State-wide and probably common to all States and territories. That's a good thing, especially if you have accessibility difficulties. It's just that if you don't have those difficulties, you don't notice the need for them. We want this amenities unit to be both functional and attractive.
Too many country aerodromes have things like this: or worse.
That's not the standard we want to meet. We want better. Like this:
We are going to be putting a great deal of effort into increasing movements (aircraft, you twat!) at Tooraweenah by word-of-mouth and social media. We've already implemented a weed control program so that tyres are not damaged by thorns. That's showing positive effects. We've drawn in the accommodation providers and the pub to service the public using the aerodrome. The greatest difficulty is to set up a refuelling station, either in town for those who use Mogas, or on the aerodrome for those who use Avgas. Mogas should be easy as we have the infrastructure, and a Mogas outlet would be welcomed by the townsfolk since it's 40-odd Ks to the nearest pump.
sell it to a private operator and then you will get nothing.

Very common in the day to capture a 'prize' and it would either be sold and shares were to crew, captain and navy.
Or they kept it and renamed it.
Some ships changed hands many times.
The Patrick O Brien series of 24? Books are like a true history and very detailed.
Some might remember the movie Master and Commander.
Dudley Pope, Alexander Kent etc. All good detained stories. Conrad, etc.

someone is forgetting the climates and available resources of the quoted countries. We do not have the major rivers top spare for hydro, or geothermal. How does nuclear grab you, based in the out back away from population centres.

ok I am giving up, enjoy the conversation. My apathy has finally kicked in.

The current crop of bushfires tends to stuff up your arguments about reduction of carbon dioxide doesnt it. One volcanoe and boom, back to square one.

So I guess what you are saying is that money is a motivator for scientists to commit fraud. I wonder if that same assertion could be leveled at other members of society perhaps those who receive financial gain from maintaining the status quo.
I am also wondering why one of these "disreputable" scientists doesn't approach a fossil fuel company or perhaps a conservative government and offer to produce the right kind of research, this would seem logical if they were so easily bought.

ok lemmings 1, common sense and the scientific community 0.

In the 1980's there was a large drought in NSW. Goulburn ( a city of 28000 people) just about ran out of water (weeks remaining and the dam totally dry)- no usable rain for many many months, cattle being shot because of no feed, farmers suiciding and being driven off the land. Does this sound familiar??? Nothing to do with climate change then, just a cyclic weather pattern that seems to have recurred now. Dust storms on the eastern seaboard. reaching many thousands of feert into the air. I remember the dust building up against fences because of no grass. I defy anyone to claim climate change for that. What is so differnt now?
Darwin 1974, increaserd hurricanes, flooding....climate change...I dont think so. Wake up people, follow the money, thats who is driving the myth of climate change. You follow like lemmings over a cliff...WAKE UP

One of the best thread drifts I have seen, hope the reunion goes well young fella...lol

Why don't majority of men ensure that their fellow men don't rape and murder young women walking home as has happened all too often here. The fact is that criminal acts are perpetrated by criminals. I don't assume that my chinese friend is a member of a drug triad and I don't believe the Italian down the road is part of the mafia although of course there is an exceedingly small chance that they could be. In the end it is about relative risk. My assumption is that your perception risk is greater than mine. I try to stay rational.
It all depends on which philosophy they believe in. If you read the Karan, you will see the basis that they live by. Its not a pretty story and espouses world domination, murder, racism etc etc on almost every page. The pity is that the ideas have not been altered to suit modern times. The beliefs are medieval, elitist, criminal, arrogant and mysoginistic in the extreme. The attitud etoward women is abominable. There are good and bad in all walks of life, but not many follow a missive that dictates the ideas of the Koran. Read it then argue for it.

I do take that point and I also understand that you are not necessarily making broad judgements although some do. The argument often goes like this, a tiny number may want to do us harm and the vast majority do not. I can't know which are the tiny majority so I am entitled to treat the whole pool of people as being potentially dangerous. The trouble is that this principle applied to other things may be troublesome. A feminist once said to me that men are rapists, I of course said I am not, she replied that whilst that may be true she could not tell which men were potential rapists and which were not. This of course is true but a society that slides into thinking that there are genders, races, religions (and I say this as an atheist) or any other group, could end up on a slippery slope to bad things. The notion that we can predict behaviour of an individual from some wider generalization that may even be partially true risks possibly punishing the innocent whilst failing to detect the people with malicious intent. Jails are full of people with poor levels of education but this tells me nothing about the neighbour who is inarticulate or poorly educated.
The issue of the people overseas now is very tricky and to me at least not black and white.
So the massive attrocities in the middle east, involving country populations is trhe actions of a minority in respose to the teachings of a book by a desert dwelling, paedophilic, drug taking slave trader. OK, terrorism, drug trade gangs and selling, shooting on the streets of sydney etc etc is the actions of a minority so why do the majority not take action to clean these crimes etc up.

1. Banning the Burka
Let's identify what's what in Islamic clothing.
I think that the Niqab, Burka and Chador represent oppression of women and are not consistent with Australian freedoms. The Hijab, and its Asian version the Dupatta are quite acceptable. Note that until the end of the 20th Century Christian nuns dressed like this:
but now are often dressed like this
and one well-known English lady often covers her head when out and about
There is another problem with school-aged children being fully covered is that they suffer from heat stress in hot weather as school uniforms we have are suitable for getting rid of body heat, but wearing full length leg and arm coverings inhibits the body's cooling, making the kids ill.
2. Religious Schools.
Once again, banning schools which express a religious philosophy as part of their curriculum opens up another can of worms. Look at the cost to the tax-payer. Close all Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic and any other school promoting a "religious" philosophy and you throw probably a million or more students onto the government operated school system. So if one law bans these registered non-government schools, how are people going to obey the Education Act 1990 (NSW) Part 5, Paragraph 22 of the Act or its equivalent in other States and Territories?
4. Principles on which this Act is based
In enacting this Act, Parliament has had regard to the following principles:
(a) every child has the right to receive an education,
(b) the education of a child is primarily the responsibility of the child’s parents,
© it is the duty of the State to ensure that every child receives an education of the highest quality,
(d) the principal responsibility of the State in the education of children is the provision of public education.
The Act also imposes a duty on parents:
22 Compulsory schooling—duty of parents
It is the duty of the parent of a child of compulsory school-age to cause the child:
1. (a) to be enrolled at, and to attend, a government school or a registered non-government school, or
(b) to be registered for home schooling under Part 7 and to receive instruction in accordance with the conditions to which the registration is subject.
2. That duty is satisfied if the child receives instruction of a kind referred to in section 23 (2).
3. Schooling required by this section is referred to in this Act as compulsory schooling
3. What's "Islamist" mean?
The Associated Press Stylebook, also known by its full name The Associated Press Stylebook and Briefing on Media Law, entry for Islamist as of 2013 reads as follows:
"An advocate or supporter of a political movement that favors reordering government and society in accordance with laws prescribed by Islam. Those who view the Quran as a political model encompass a wide range of Muslims, from mainstream politicians to militants known as jihadi.
Do not use as a synonym for Islamic fighters, militants, extremists or radicals, who may or may not be Islamists. Where possible, be specific and use the name of militant affiliations: al-Qaida-linked, Hezbollah, Taliban, etc."
So an 'Islamist" is a person who wants to install Sharia Law where they govern. Clearly, Sharia Law is not fully compatable with Westminster-type law. Islamic legal tradition has a number of parallels with Judaism. In both religions, revealed law holds a central place, in contrast to Christianity which does not possess a body of revealed law, and where theology rather than law is considered to be the principal field of religious study
A 2013 survey based on interviews of 38,000 Muslims, randomly selected from urban and rural parts in 39 countries, respondents were more likely to define sharia as "the revealed word of God" rather than as "a body of law developed by men based on the word of God". In analyzing the poll, it has been argued that there is no single, shared understanding of the notions "sharia" and "Islamic law" among the respondents. In particular, in countries where Muslim citizens have little experience with rigid application of sharia-based state laws, these notions tend to be more associated with Islamic ideals like equality and social justice than with prohibitions.
It would seem that the label of "Islamist" inferring some sort of negative social concept is a propaganda tool dependent on the reporting of some rare (relative to the number of practising Muslims) occurrences of extreme punishment, and a failure to understand and find the similarities between Sharia and Western legal philosophy.
Its not islamic clothing, it was designed to keep the sand out of the eyes etc in the desert. No desert here on the east coast. If I have to remove my bike helmet to enter a bank, why do these idiots not have to uncover for the same reason. Crimes committed by men disguised in the full face post box item have been recorded because no one can identify them under the cloth. Ban the burqua, hiqab, etc no problems. Using a scarf to tame unruly hair or stop your hairdo from being mashed by the elements is one thing, wearing a black sheet with a slit for the eyes is another. The clothing is not a religious requirement, it was a climatic one. The wearing of the haedgear for nuns etc was to appear like then clothing of Mary etc who were raised and lived in the middle east and had the same sand in the hair problem Sensibly they changed with the times not like the medieval male centered mohammedans.

Immigrant crime rates in NSW and Vic are out of control, hand them a large friendly trough and boy do they feed from it, legally or illegally. Our obligations are from the UN which is run by countries that do not honour their obligations, ie Middle east countries etc. Genuine refugees that assimilate and play the game legally are fine but the current batches have bought many bad attitudes with them. I point to the crtime gangs in Victoria, the drug trade and stand overs in Sydney etc etc. Immigrants from africa and middle eastern countries running thesae. I appreciate that there are good honest hard working genuine refugees but our do good tree huggers have removed any semblance of filtering and common sense from the process. When I see friends of mine suffer home invasions, assaults and robberies from immigrant gangs I am afraid I do not share your sense of pat em on the back and bend over. I point to the problems being suffered by germany, england, scandinavia and some mediterranean countries to make my point. Do we want this here.
If everyone plays by the same book then fine, but they dont.

QLD (and WA) are why we have this pathetic LNP government.
Scomo is a national embarrassment, toadying to Trump like a true brown-noser while ignoring the climate change elephant in the room.
He even came close to saying "fake news" about anyone who denigrates Australia's carbon reduction efforts. No wonder kids are totally over politicians. I just hope all those angry 16 year olds vote as soon as they hit 18.
so what is your alternative, unlimited immigration with Labour/greens. Bad fiscal decisions with same ...who remembers 17% interest rates under Lab. Highest unemp[loyment under Lab, scandals, infighting etc etc. I am not a LNP supporter but they beat the hell out of the proposed alternative. Illiterate tree huggers dictating policy to Lab pollies who should know better but need to trade off their principles for voles.

everyone seems to be down on coal fired power stations. Do you not realise that there is technology available that stops CO2 and smoke from burning coal actually entering the atmosphere. The smoke etc is processed and steam is the only product released. The other by products are commercially absorbed in liquids and commercailly used. Very eco friendly. No water and drowned forests, no chine syndrome and no ugly wind turbines.
I realise thisa argument is not accepted by the tree huggers but it is real and achievable.
-
substitute tree huggers, the current batch of greenie politicians and people with degrees in humanities, welfare and psychology with no life exterience for the term do-gooder and you might get the point. It isnt the intelligent, well reasoned do gooding thats the problem its the mindless, knee jerk do gooding thats the problem

Best argument for not believing climate change comes from the green leader today in a statement about the Queenland bushfires. . Di Natalie is rapidly becoming another speak before you think expert. Please, all you greens out there, speak to the people on the land, people who actually know what the situation is and live with its effects before you get on your high horses in your city dwellings, turn off your airconditioning and actually think using facts and real world evidence not rubbish spouted by "experts" with no experience. There may be a problem but walking off the cliff with everyone else because some "expert"says so turns people into sheep. Talk to real life people living with the land and climate, not high rise plastic tree huggers...

German media quick off the mark. . .they really don't like boris. . .
This from a country that has a bleeding heart for a chancellor and an open door immigration policy that is ruining their country adn those surrounding it. Germany is NOT a good example and their opinion is irrelevant.
The Poms elected Boris so they get what they elect.n Maybe they can vote again on his election because some dont like it. (precedent has been set wityh Brexit)

I would be more worried if he did not do this. Very healthy expressing it like this. Gets it out, not bottled up. Good drawing by the way.

Feels strange for me to be accused of siding with a bishop, what with me being a follower of Dawkins and a lapsed Anglican.
Here's where I stand: I would have found Pell guilty. My punishment would have included less jail time and more financial restitution to the victims. I would have awarded them $100,000 each, to be paid for by Pell.
And I would have recognised that nasty community attitudes, like we have seen displayed here, were in a small way to blame for the suicide of one boy. There have been societies where the outrage and consequent shame would have been a lot less.
A contributing factor is clearly the requirement for celibacy in the job that Pell did. This is a barbaric idea.
Right now, Pell is the underdog and I admit to feeling sorry for his plight, as I feel sorry for those poor choir-boys. My mind will change if he wins his next appeal and becomes legally innocent. I will still think him guilty but will stop feeling sorry for him.
Sorry mate but paedo is paedo. Lock the bas...d up and throw away the key. Its not about him, its about his victims, 1 is too many. In his position he should have lead by excample, not joined the rotten pigs at the trough. He chose the celebate life, his choice so he has to live with it. Filth is filth. His victims received a life sentence, so should he. I dont loose sleep at night when these perverts in positions of power get caught. I dont feel the least bit sorry for him. I feel for his victims and all those others abused by those in positions of power, church, school or other.

Why has no one mentioned the clean coal argument. The burning of fossil fuels these days in power stations leaves only water vapoour coming out the chimney. Not CO2 etc as in the past, Burned coal gasses can be captured, processed and used etc.

no it hasn'tMore Heresy. . . .hasn't anyone told this ex Greenpeace clown that the science is settled beyond any argument ?Burn the witch !

Australias stand on climate change makes very good sense. Geologically cyclic events that occur. Cow farts etc make very little difference, reference the ozone hole scare of a number of years ago. One volcano eruption and bang goes your theory.

dont care if she's gay, black, purple or polka dot, she cant manage the party. She has a penchant for giving away everything to ovberseas interests to kake herself feel good. Not a good choice. Love him or hate him, Albanese is the only one with a brain in thaqt whole area.
