1. I'm not saying the whole system is not ar5e up. Take this meme from Facebook:-

My wife and I are both 72. We are both on the pension. Both our super's are gone, because super didn't start till 1993 and then was only 3%. We haven't been on any fancy trips (well, the Spirit to Tassie isn't exactly an ocean cruise). When I was retrenched, I had to use what personal contributions I had made to super instead of being eligible for unemployment benefit, because it was non-preserved. I now get $330.60 per week pension and so does the wife. With gas, electricity, water bills, etc, my pension is often gone before sunset on pension day. And Mr Smugface says we are getting too much, he can't afford it.

Ahh, but apparently the budget CAN afford $48 billion in tax cuts for Big Business ... That is, those businesses that pay ANY tax.

  2. Yeah, because we all buy an $800,000 apartment on a whim.

Bit different to stopping off for a burger. Give it the old logic test Red... what's more likely, that she wanted to go bid on the apartment so organised a bit of Gold Coast business to give it the whiff of respectability (and to use your tax dollars to travel), or that she had existing business planned there and happened to nip in to the auction?

I know which I think is more likely.

I'm not saying that Labor is any better, and parliamentary entitlements should be tightened severely. In fact the worst ever (that we know of) was Eddie O'beid who was NSW Labor.

Shouldn't stop us from commenting when someone gets caught with their snout in the trough. If pollies are so divorced from the expectations of the voting public that they can't use common sense when using our tax dollars, then perhaps they shouldn't be in the job.

At the risk of furthering the thread drift here; This minister claimed that she "met with health stakeholders" on the GC, but refused to say who those "stakeholders" were or what the purpose of the meeting was. I smell a large dead rat here. If she's travelling on the public dime, don't the public have a right to know why the money was spent?

Like Marty, I think the justification was cooked up to cover the trip cost.

And while we're on the topic of Gillard using an RAAF plane to go to someone's wedding ... pot / kettle etc. Whatever any Laborites have done, the Libs have done tenfold. It's just that the Libs scream blue murder (and so does their chief propaganda machine) if anyone else does what they do...."How DARE they!"

    Phil:

I gave you a funny smiley for that, but depending on the outcome, none of us may be thinking it's funny at all.

  4. Speaking of Volvo drivers ...

When Volvo decided to enter cars in the Supercar series, there were a lot of jokes along the lines of the Volvo cars doing the whole race with the left hand turn signals flashing. Another one was that the Volvo drivers would be wearing hats instead of helmets.

  5. Are there any similar studies that might determine the number of people speed enforcement might have killed by putting them to sleep?I have found, personally, that it doesn't matter how well rested I am, if I'm on a open road between 80 (or lower) and 100kph, after a few minutes the mind wanders.

I see many people like this when I travel, arm on window, head resting on hand looking bored and tired, not to mention very unfocused.

I am aware of studies that have found those who ignore the limit and just drive where they are comfortable, are less likely to crash.

As as I can tell, speed is not so much a causal factor, but causes injuries if you do crash.

Authorities seem hell bent on reducing crash injuries, rather than stopping them from crashing in the first place.

What I'd like to see is a study of how many tail-enders were caused by people slamming on the brakes when they discover the speed camera van parked next to the road.

I had occasion to give evidence to a parliamentary enquiry about speed cameras and I said to the pollies that instead of putting up signs to say Speed camera ...For road safety" They should put up signs "Warning, sudden, unexpected braking may occur". They were not amused.

  6. Those damn louts on mobility scooters, like bloody hells angels they are. Dangerous punks should be kept off the road.

And out of the shops. I've nearly been run over a few times in the supermarket aisles.

  7. We are all to blame. Who would vote for a politician who was honest enough to promise to get our national debt under control by increasing taxes and reducing services?

OK! It's not only us, and it's not even mainly us that lets the pollies get away with their lies. As shown by the responses to the forum here, most people are awake to the lies. The real villians are the compliant media who never ask follow up questions or challenge a pollie when they spew forth utter BS. The media usually also have an agenda, so they spin the BS of their favored pollies, and beat up the other side. Most media outlets try to disguise their bias, but the Murdochracy are quite blatant and shameless about it. The ABC portrayed as Islamic State, or Kevin Rudd photoshopped into a Nazi uniform?

  8. I would respectfully suggest, that if you find those two signs confusing that you revisit your L test ASAP. It simply means:

(in a country that drives on the right)

    Road goes left

    Keep right and don't cut

    Seriously?

    Yes ... "Seriously?"

    Missing

1 Sense of humour. If anyone finds it please return it to ...

  9. Not only that, but he's come out with the somewhat disturbing statement that if she wasn't his daughter, he'd be dating her.

Yes, and the people who have put him in the lead for the Republican ticket are the Fox news / reality TV watchers, and they're allowed to vote and breed also! Scary!!

  10. After the disaster that was "W", if my fellow countrymen (and women) elect this dud, I'll seriously consider relinquishing my citizenship.

Seriously people? The Presidency is not just another reality TV show!!!
