  1. [quote="Marty_d, post: 602931,

We do immigration really well in this country because we're already a country where over 50% of people are either immigrants, or have a parent who's an immigrant.

That's not an overly good way to measure goodness of immigration. Using that same logic places like immigration detention islands must do immigration really really well.

  2. To counter the argument that agriculture production has left GBthe wheat production in the United Kingdom and in Australia are roughly equilavent at around 25 million tons

Not to be pedantic but I think you will find the UK is around 15-16 compared to Australia at around 25. Still not to be sneezed at though.

  3. positive and negatives! To be honest, I cant see too much difference

Sorry but I couldn't resist the opportunity to take this SS quote totally out of context and place it here. I would make an awesome journalist:amazon:

  4. "sesquipedalian' how dare you??? (if only I had some kind of device that I could type that word into find out what it means... oh wait)

Are you referring to the word usements I structure? do you have a problem with the posts what I write?spacer.png

I have no problem with anyone's posts, including yours, I just thought I would poke a bit of fun at big words by using a big word:wink:.

I do find that when people use big words unnescesarilly they come across as being uppity. I wonder if that is just an Australian lower class response or is it a common phycological phenomenon?

But either way I hold nothing against you Octave, it is just my childishness shining through (those who know me understand).

  5. The beam through the top rung would definitely stop the ladder falling over hence the joke referring to the safety lock (or whatever they call it) which is a required thing on a fair bit of ladder work these days.

  6. Well google will lead the best of us astray:blush:

It seems there are too many ways to interpret statistics.

Maybe we should stick to sources like

Debt to the Penny (Daily History Search Application)

Which can still be manipulated but is hard data. Yes I do understand how a pres shouldn't be held accountable for their first year of gov but that would mean we couldn't judge Barack accurately until octoberish and the way Donald is going who knows what that figure will be and no doubt everyone won't be in agreement as to whether it is more or less.

But from the 20th to the 20th the us debt climbed around 9.3 trillion according to the government (YES yes I was thinking government and reliable stats in one sentence! Maybe I should go to sleep:doh:)

  7. Whether he was or was not a terrorist doesn't really matter now.

If he did deliberately run people over in the manner that has been reported then he needs to be treated the same same as if he was a confirmed terrorist who did similar acts.

Reasoning with ice addicts is impossible, I don't know that there is a perfect solution to that problem.

  8. For me, we are a lot better off materialistically (is that a word?) than my previous generations BUT I think we are worse off as far as person to person respect/relations go.

I think maybe we would be better off with a little less if it meant society as a whole respected each other more.

It is a bit of a see saw really, it is hard to give an overall result better/worse as so many things affect it. Just look at social media/internet, an aweful lot of good comes from it but also some horrid effects are also felt. Are we better off with it? I'm not sure, we have a world of knowledge at our fingertips but also the biggest key to unsocial behaviour.

  9. Now now OME I certainly didn't mean to hijack the republican win thread, actually I only placed my comment there after many off topic posts had already been posted.

Now not meaning to be nit picky but wasn't this the first post to bring theology into that thread?

But Israel is based on preserving the governance of a sector of the human population by a non-tangible entity whose existence cannot be proved by any currently observable means.

    OME[/

  10. I like the idea OME but realistically I think it is optimistic.

It would be nice to have a thread for politics and one for beliefs but the trouble is those things influence lots of other topics hence they always get brought up.

I don't think it is unreasonable when already in an off topic thread to discuss them but I do think we should try and keep them out of the threads in the rest of the site.

  11. If you read what I wrote, It's that realisation that you've waste part of your precious, short life trying to appease a non-existent god. Nothing to do with those that euphoric state of those who believe the most powerful being in the universe is listening to them.I will lighten up when religion is for adults only, not while they let people fill kiddies heads with it...it's called "grooming"

God is love and you better believe in him or you will spend eternity in hell!Grooming? I think it's worse than that. The term child abuse comes to mind.

The devisions between those who believe in a God and those who don't will always be broad and cause similar unending arguments as those caused when a far left person argues with a far right over politics. As much as we are loath to admit it we are all bigoted in our way of thinking and the more we try to convince those of opposing views the less likely they are to listen.

I strongly disagree with anyone trying to push their beliefs or non beliefs on others.

Using children to target those of opposing views is unnecessary IMO. I think we all want the best for our children and no doubt we all do our best to equip them for the big wide world in the best way we can. We all teach our children right from wrong (as we see it!) from a very early age, this will obviously differ with culture, ideologies, moral beliefs and with many other factors including the God vs no god sides and I think that is a very basic human right as long as it abides within our countries laws and lines up with agreeable ethics (basically treat others nicely and not harm those that think differently to us)

  12. Oh the Irony of it all.

It seems the sorest losers are the ones who the day before said Trump was going to be a sore loser.

As an aside I am always amused (actually I could finish the sentence there, I am always amused by something or another thing) at how set we get with our opinion. None of us like being called bigots but when it comes to politics we generally all are. So please folks remember we are all pilots and we all love flying, don't let politics ruin our comraderie.

So poke at each other and parry with words but don't take it too seriously at the end of the day our friendships are more important than a bunch of pollies

  13. Well this morning early our local abc had a male 'feminist' on who was wanting Hillary in because women were more likely to give life than kill and I did think for a minute that it would be nice if DT won just to annoy him so maybe it is my fault:sad:

But having said that I think if truth was told things would be just as bad under Hillary.
